Now knowing that the Escort/Tracer/Protégé power window motor works (and the cables can be fitted to our regulator "mast/lifter"), if I had the project to do again, here's what I would do differently:
1. Buy a new motor as opposed to one out of a salvage yard. The new ones are pretty cheap online, so why not? I just didn't want to spend an extra $20 when I wasn't certain the thing would fit.
2. I MIGHT consider carving out a small section on the interior door frame to allow a little more room for the motor to sit. I don't think doing so would compromise the structural integrity of the interior door frame and it would give another 1/4 to 1/2 inch of clearance room for the motor. By so doing, you may be able to devise a way to hold the motor in place with the mounting bolts or rivets as opposed to my zip tie approach.
Again - all in hindsight. The take-away for me is that if I have to do this again on the other door, I will not hesitate to use the $35 Escort motor retrofit vs the alternatives available online.
Down side is that this mod means I can't participate in the "stock" autocross class.
