Coolant coming out of overflow...
« on: February 18, 2010, 09:14:00 PM »

on the TSI i got it is making coolant come out the overflow tank on longer trips....temps on car are normal...the bottle neck where the cap  was changed then it started doing this...i got a new cap and flushed it..still no help..thermostat next and hope its not a head gasket..i also noticed that the heat sucked when i was flushing it so maybe its just the thermostat...

Does it constantly bubble like their is air trapped in the system? if so time for a headgasket.

Unless you have a air pocket trapped, which is possible, throw a new thermostat in and bleed the system good, easy way is to hold the brakes and put in gear to put a load on the motor.

Running the motor in gear while you brake puts strain on the motor, which would be a last effort to force the air from the system. Just run the car without the rad cap on with the heat on full blast, make sure the thermostat opens and keep the fluid full. Watch and make sure your fans run once you get to higher temps, and that your not getting anymore air bubbles from the system. Some cars have bleeders as well, but not sure if your car does. Anywho if you keep getting constant bubbling usually very "violent" then you have exhaust getting into your coolant system via bad head gasket. Not always the case but a good way to tell, among the typical coolant in the oil, or burning of coolant.

Good luck bud.
