Lower Radiator Hose Replacement
« on: June 03, 2015, 01:03:42 AM »

The Lower Radiator Hose for the Capri is "almost" the same hose that's used on the 1988 Mazda 323 and is available thru most local Auto Parts Stores. The 323 Hose is 1 3/8" longer and can be trimmed to fit exactly as the O.E. Hose for the Capri if you choose(Trim at the Radiator connect end). The part number is Gates C71347 and the cost's varies from $8.99 to $9.99.

Thank you very much. That's the one hose I haven't replaced. I did that with a couple little hoses, find a close one and trim it. Best time to replace that hose is when you change the timing belt/water pump for all the stuff in the way.

...yep Mitch, I just replaced the Radiator in mine and was shocked to see how "soft" the Lower Hose was..I'm surprised how long it had lasted, some of these sites are crazy asking $35 to $45 for an 18" rubber hose that they say is "Hard to Find" items..

I find it weird that manufacturers still make the top hose but not the bottom. Either make them both or discontinue them both. Its the same at all parts stores. I'd say there is one screwed up manufacturer sticking a dozen different brand names on these hoses.

Manufacturer probably didn't want another skew when the longer 323 hose will work.  Back in the old days, it was common for a hose to fit different vehicles by cutting off one end or the other.  The hoses were even marked where to cut.

Thanks for the info / confirmation NiteLord. I bought one of the 323 hoses back in February but wasn't sure about the length and inside diameter without taking the old hose off. I was going to change the hose during 4th July week off work. it appears you beat me to it.
Thanks for sharing.

this is awesome. apparently I need to swap all the hoses on my car soon. So I was looking under the hood yesterday, and happened to see ford imprinted on the top radiator hose. it also said 1991. lol.  think i'm due?
