New mastetr cylinders are junk????
« on: January 26, 2025, 09:34:24 PM »

So, I've had my hands on 4 'NEW' master cylinders in the past 2 weeks, and they were all junk.  I was replacing the brake booster on the magenta 94xr2 and decided to replace the master as well.  I had a new spare one in my hoard (I'm keeping 3 Capris running!), pulled it out to discover the plunger was jammed in, would not retract. Ordered an O'reillys one, put it in, and it leaked like crazy... end plug was leaking, removed it to find 2/3 of a rubber seal (where's the other part???), got one from Amazon a company in Kentucky, one brake port would not bleed, nothing coming out.  Took the car to a shop who said they found a guaranteed one, they put it in, and one line would not bleed in the car, brake line is clear... and that's that I'm running with right now, 3 wheel braking with the brake light on occasionally.

It seems that EVERYBODY is selling 'new' Capri brake master cylinders lately, maybe a distributer found a stock of factory rejects and is offering them up, they are all about $145.

So unless I can find a rebuild kit, or the specs for a kit, I seem to be out of luck.  Anyone else have problems, or is this just my crappy luck?

I got one good from from O'Reilly's and not sure about the second one. I have a rear dragging. Replaced the hose and it's still dragging. Haven't had a chance to work on it yet. Wonder if master isn't allowing fluid to return.

I've had several 'rear dragging' brake issues over the years, seems to happen when weather is hot... I have flushed the brakes and gotten positive temporary results, always wound up replacing the master to fix it...

I've had a mushy pedal for years now, that no amount of bleeding has been able to fix. If ya'll find functional master cylinders for sale, sign me up for one please
