ok, now that i have some of yalls  attention,
how does a kl v6 capri sound??
you could start with a base capri..
so the car itself will be cheap and a nice one can be found.
(since most xr2 cars are now owned by people who know what they have.)
the motor is plentiful found in quite a few mazda and ford models.....
has this been dicussed or done????

to keep it FWD it would need to be a very small V6

i say get the SR20DET from the Pulsar GTI-R and swap it. it is mounted sideways, 215hp stock with tons of upgrades...

Hey RCI!  I've not seen nor heard of the conversion in a capri yet but would not dought it's been done somewhere. This conversion has been done numerous times in the mazda forums. That motor is quite a horsepower producer, would easily exceed the horsepower carrying abilities of the of trans and other drivetrain componets.  Gus.  PS I've been following your other posts with great interests as I gear up to do my Janis a big lifestyle improvement.  Gus

Would be a pretty cool swap for sure.

Tell us more about the neon coil, caught my interest.

KL has been done many times in the base model 323, which is nearly the same engine bay so I'd say its gunna be really tight but very do-able. I've thought of it, but I dont wanna put an even more torquey/heavy engine into a FWD capri...id rather do a drivetrain swap first

i wanted an msd coil... so i started with a tfi coil for the older mustangs (usually what you think of when you say you got a mercury capri)
it works. but seemed not quite there when i was in the higher rpms. so i went on summit i want to say. and started looking at coils and output and come to find out i was restricting myself up high. so i looked for one that looked like our stock one. and had faster response . i came accross the mid 90s dodge neon coil

it looks similar to our stock unit but puts out 35,000 whatever at whatever response..it works good... i felt a difference from about 5000-redline and it was a smooth diference. not huge power gains. more tieing it all together smoothness
now the corksport downpipe ,that made huge power gains...but thats another story now aint it...

and not necessarily a kl. even a k8 from a v6 mx3 its a 1.8 litre, spread out over 6 cylinders. so higher compression turbo is attainable. due to the tiny displacement of each cylinder resisting detonation...

and theyre not too much heavier beings they got an aluminum block....

and they sound awesome at higher rpms...

If you're going to fit a K8 might as well do the whole KL, they're the same size

And yeah they sound awesome. Turbo KL in a capri would be a bit nutty, I helped a friend turbo his probe and even in that large of an engine bay there is no room

What kinda mods did you have to do to make the corksport downpipe fit?

Also does the neon coil completely plug in? or do you have to change a plug? so say 90-96 coil? any certain model?

to get the corksport DP to fit you must grind a good portion of your oil pan nearest the tranny
(ill post pics, when i take some of the miata style bar mod.) as for the coil it looks just like it does in my engine bay pics. it does not plug in, and a short set of jumpers (out of speaker wire and spade connectors ) thares just a positive and a negative.. pretty simple

I was looking at a blaster coil install on a 89 mx6 and they use a lot of similar parts as the capri, including the coil, so I figured it should work the same for us?

Either or I'll def be upgrading the coil while I'm doing my current mods, thanks for the info! feel free to check out my build thread!
