Timing Belt Cover
« on: October 08, 2012, 02:56:00 PM »

I cant get it off. I have removed all the bolts and I cant get the bottom ppiece off. Im trying to replace the waterpump myself and I cant get the belt off so I cant get to the pump. I have even removed the engine mount and jacked up the engine a little so its easier to get to the cover but it wont come off, I dont want to remove the pullies yet because I want to make sure I can get the cover off first. Am I going about this the wrong way?

If you're trying to remove the backing plate, it won't come off unless you remove the cam gears. It is not necessary to remove the gears or the backing plate to replace the water pump, it clears the bottom of the plate.

Well I know the backing plate wont come off Im talking about the bottom half of the timing belt cover that is behind the crank pully and the waterpump pully, i cant get to my tensioner to remove the belt cuz the cover wont come off, it seems like its mostly because of the motor mount right there. i removed the mount from the block but it still has a piece on the block and thats where the belt cover is, wedged up under there
