Title: 1974 Front strut replacement.
Post by: dodo on August 06, 2015, 09:17:20 PM
I cannot find replacement front strut cartridges for my 1974 Capri. Does anyone have a part number that they found would work? I found a set from a early 70s Datsun 260z that had the same measurements as my 1974 and I thought they would work. But when I got my struts torn down I found that the top portion of the shock has two vertical flats that mate thru the upper strut mount. That might explain why the steering would always center itself on its own when the front wheels are off the ground. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks......Steve

Summit Racing has a set of Koni struts. A little pricey at $137.80 each but it's a rare part and Koni is a good performance brand.

Rock Auto has everything else like bellows and a mount kit. Both have the rear shocks.

My first Capris were a 1973 and 1974. I sure wish I still had my 1973 from high school. I loved that car.

I got the struts back together and installed in the car, but I got a problem. The wheels no longer center themselves automatically like they did before I started. They point to the right at about a two o'clock position. I have got something put back together wrong, but what? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....Steve

Not sure? If they are anything like the 91-94 series then check the orientation of the strut mounts. The strut hole favors one side and effects the camber if you have them mounted backwards. You might have to spin them 180°.
