Cruise Control Doesn't work
« on: February 11, 2010, 05:39:00 AM »

My 91's cruise control doesn't work. Is this a known issue?

If not, does anyone have any ideas? The Switch lights up, but the car never takes over control of the gas pedal.

My First guess is that it is a vaccum leak somewhere. Anyone else have any ideas?

The Capri's cruise system is purely electronic. Which light are you referring to?

That is good information to know. The light in the switch lights up when I turn it on, and turns off when I shut it off. I assume the switch is working, but guess the control box is troubled. Any idea where the control box is?

I'm a little confused. I haven't noticed a light in any of the cruise switches I have (or are mine burnt out lol?) Are your switches in the steering wheel? Do you have an aftermarket system?

I'm not sure where the precise location of the cruise box is. I'll have to dig out my FSM and have a looksee.

It looks like it might be an aftermarket job. That was my first impression when I saw it. Also, I didn't think the Capri had cruise control on a manual transmission.

Anyways, the controls are to the left of the steering wheel, in the padded part below the vents.

It is a four way switch. Up is on, Left is set, right is resume and down is off. When I turn it to ON the box glows orange, but it never sets.

Most of the 5-speed Capris I get to part out have cruise! They were the first manual trans car I ever saw with cruise!

So I was looking at the Aftermarket system I have and noticed it wasn't bolted down to anything. This means when the servo system tried to put tension on the acceleration chain, the entire box would move and the Cruise Control didn't work.

I secured the module where it is suppose to go, and got the Cruise Control to work at 20 miles an hour. If I go faster it does not work.

Any ideas? Sound like a vaccum issue? Maybe something needs to be oiled? I did not find a name on the control box, but maybe I can find some more info for you all later. My initial guess is it is an audiovox system. Dunno why, just has an audiovox feel.

oh hey wait, nevermind. When I went out to find a name on the servo box, I found a loose vaccum line which seemed to solve the problem.
