rear view mirror
« on: May 15, 2012, 02:30:00 PM »

I have a rear view mirror that has 2 lights in the bottom that i can turn on by pressing the switches for each light. But in order for the lights to turn on, the rear view mirror needs to be connected to something to give it electricity. I am wondering to what i can connect the wires to give the mirror power

There is a socket for it at the top of the fuse box. It's a very small socket, and hard to reach, but its there. It's the only socket there that the wire end will fit. Just get under there and start looking - you'll find it!

Looking at the schematic and troubleshooting chart, it appears to be both. Manual switch or open door switch should power the lamps.
I'm going to install bulbs in mine this weekend. I'll post again after.

Installed bulbs. Light comes on when door is open with switch off. Light comes on when switch on till turned off.

The OEM mirror lights come on manually and when the door is opened. Just checked mine...

Just coming around to install the rearview mirrow. Been sitting, just now open the package. It has 3 wires. I thought I saw Matt's webpage show 2 wires.  If OEM is 2 wires, I dont see how its impossible to have it turn on auto when doors open and turn on manually when door close.

good morning
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Safe travels to all.

Matt's webpage shows an improvised harness NOT OEM harness.
the OEM socket is a 4-pin socket. your OEM plug should fit in there.

Ok, I took a look at the socket and it's 3 pin for '91.  Perfect for my mirror I got from Chevy Cavalier, also 3 wires.  I believe:
Orange: 12V+
White : BCM manually on?
Black : Neg-

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!
