Valve stem seals
« on: November 22, 2009, 12:44:00 PM »

Hey guys, i just installed valve stem seals and replaced everything, new headgaskets intake gasket and exhaust gaskets,. I started the car and it has a miss at idle, but it runs fine when i drive it down the road. It sounds like a vaccumm leak but all the hoses that i can see are fine. I checked the timing sevral times, everything is perfect would anyone know why it has this miss, thanks.

Well this is gonna sound stupid, but i had to make my own valve spring compressor, i took a 3/4 inch pipe and cut one side of it out, and then i took a 24 inch slide clamp to compress the springs. Well little did i know the clamp was hitting the spark plugs and completly closing the gap on the plugs, so once i took the plugs out and regapped them it was fine. I am glad i took the head back off because the valves really needed seating. Needless to say i learned a valuable lesson this time around.

Iv done some internal work, iv rebuilt a 302, 351, 2.3 and a 4.0. Its really intersting to tear one down and rebulid it, you will learn alot when you start doing it.Im all the time learning something new on an engine.
