What is this?
« on: September 24, 2009, 09:02:00 AM »

I was checking for the leakage under the transmission as there was some oil on the floor of my driveway.

Found out that this switch in the picture is leaking. This is near to the oil drain plug for the tranny and do not confuse it to the reverse light switch on the front of the transmission ( when you are facing the car from the front )

Does anyone know what is this switch?

I mean to say, where do we buy that from? I have tried Schucks and Autozone and they do not have it.

Hey Delhi! Try those places. Also keep in mind that our cars share the drive-train with mazda 323s of the same years or close to same years. You can also try the Mazda dealer.  Gus

If I remember correctly the neutral switch and reverse switch are identical perhaps aside from harness plugs, its a pretty cheap part

But the question is where do you get them from?
Also, what does this switch exactly do? I was thinking if I could just put a drain plug if it was the exact size and just short the switch.

its tells the ecm that the car is in neutral and when you push the clutch in you can start it if you short it or you could start the car when its in gear im think with out pushin in the clutch.. so its not bad but not good either its just a contact switch... it should not be bad just check it and see its just leakin make you a gasket to stop it from leakin

It should be available from most parts stores, it may be a special order part but if I remember right they're usually only about $10

Worst case scenario the dealer will have them.

The dealers do not have them. I have already called up Mercury dealers and they say its a discontinued item.

The leakage is coming in from inside the switch, where the 2 wires are.
