That gap would be caused by the vinyl shrinking with age/wear/ exposure to sunlight.
There is a difference in early 91 tops, but it is the length of the seam above the door. The rest is identical. Looks like it may be time to upgrade to a canvas top?

ok well having to live in El Cenro, ca. it gets up 118° over here so with that said is canvas still a better option to go with on this weather condition

I have a cloth top on one of our cars. It's been on our car for 9 years. It came from a parts car and was 3 years old when we got. So, it's over 12 years old, and it still looks brand new! The car is stored outside, all year, in the sun. A vinyl top would have fallen apart after 3 years...

Nothing is better on these cars than a cloth top!!

I purchased one on ebay from Diamond auto mall.  I am picking my car up tomorrow morning.  I will take a few pictures and post them.  Can't wait to see it.  It was $270 plus $30 shipping...it is a stayfast canvas top.

Here is a pic of my new Stayfast Canvas top installed on my 92XR2.  I paid $295 to have it installed.  This is the second top that I've had installed by the same company.  They installed one on my 91NA also.
