On to step one, fixing everything that’s wrong with this, first and
most present, there is a slight coolant leak in the engine bay, under the distributer coming out of the block it’s a very short hose, picked a new one up at O’Reillys, but
It’s very hard to get to, I’m not even sure what it’s for, might go to the heater core, so I’ll have to get that done soon. As far as coolant is concerned it’s fairly clean however the thermostat is either acting up or is to high of a thermostats because it love to the engine very hot, I put a 180 degree in my base capri and am thinking about doing the same because it works very well. The second issue would be that on start up there is a slight ticking noise that happen for the first 1-5 minutes, the second I start driving it tends to go away, thought it might be the lifters, not sure thought because my base capri has the same thing very slightly and it only has 50k miles, one other this is the oil pressure, seems to not run very high at all, don’t know if that’s a normal thing but it generally runs rust about the low white line if that makes sense.  The third thing would be the shifter linkage bushing are gone making that not fun to shift but I have some coming in the mail. The next thing would be that the air bag light flashes, and for some time because someone put tape over it, not sure what it could be but I have heard it’s like the car trying to tell you what’s wrong so I’ll have to look at that for a bit. I will also have to rebuild or replace the headlight motor for the driver side because sadly it doesn’t work, I have quite a few capri parts that I am thinking about selling maybe on eBay or Facebook, I have a wing that is in good condition but needs to be painted I just don’t have space to paint it, I also have a original fully working stereo that I need to get ride of, I’m sure I have more parts I should sell but let me know if any of you want first dibs. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated!

MELLING M141 should be the oil pump you need for the small nose crank. It's listed on RockAuto for the 1990 Mazda Miata

Click the part # in the listing you can see it is for the late 80s up to 91s mazda engines. They changed the crank/pump part way through 1990 mfg date IIRC

If you take your rear calipers to Advance Auto, for the time being, they will send them off to have them rebuilt and returned.

So the part came in today and to no one’s surprise, it didn’t fit :D, I’m just gonna have to keep trying oil pumps and returning them as I go or maybe source a used one from a junkyard or find someone on EBay that will measure the pump for me before I buy it.

Just to forewarn you, I played this exact same game with both fuel pumps and radiators. I have 4 brand new fuel pumps that don't fit, and the 33 year old OEM one still in the car. I also have 1 brand new radiator that was too long, though I did eventually source an aftermarket replacement that fit after minor modification. Rear brake calipers are gone too, so treat yours like treasure. Oh, one of the styles of alternators is also gone, as is most of the supply of parts to rebuild it. If you have a short nose XR2, you probably have this alternator.

The day has finally come and I am making my second capri purchase, funny how you always end up with more than one of these things, however this one is a XR2. I wanted to know if there where any ideas of a good place to start with modding and building this car, I want to have fun and get it fast, I am down to try anything, I have been on this cite a bunch and have read a lot of great things, but as time goes on information and availability can change so I wanted to know if y’all had any updated advice, any help is greatly appreciate! I have heard great things about the rocket chip but don’t know where I would be able to buy one!

They look right, but you never know for sure until you have the part in hand. Good luck

So I ordered the oil pump for a 1990 Miata off of rockauto for $70, it comes in tomorrow and I’ll keep you guys posted if it works or not. Really hoping it works because this is all that’s left to get my capri up and running again after the motor rebuild.
