Title: CUP HOLDERS!!
Post by: tonlaw71 on May 21, 2011, 01:20:00 PM
Well, here's my solution to the no cup holders problem. Grabbed one of those $5 deals at Wal Mart that's supposed to wedge between the seats. Cut off the piece under the actual cup holders and slapped her on there! I am going to paint it gray to match the dash and get some caps for the screws, but you get the idea. The glove box still opens and I put 8 pounds of weight on it and it didn't budge, so I think I'm good to go for my trip Florida in 3 days!!

You can get up under the dash & add some metal backing to make it a bit stronger pretty easy. I always got drinks with caps when I had mine..LOL

Believe it or not, just grabbed some wire and some pliers, and bent this OZ shaped cup holder.  With a little fitting, it will hold a 44oz big gulp, never spilled one yet, doesn't work good on cans though...when and where are you hitting Florida?...Chris from Palm Bay Florida area

Gost- I cut the curve into the back of the holder, so it molds to the dash pretty good. No play in it all. I think it's a keeper!

Blue- Yep, saw your posts from a long time ago and thought about the wire thing too! Figured this would be good for my wife's coffee cups too. I'll be in Pensacola from Wednesday thru Saturday next week.

1992–1995 Mercury Sable slide out cup holders fit fine with only two little holes drilled in the plastic for the screws. Even has change tray.

Also won't work very well if you have a manual transmission...

I installed one on a old guys car, just had to swap the stereo to the bottom location. It worked pretty good. Bad thing is thing is those were made in the 90's when a can of coke or 16oz bottle were the normal drinking size. Drinks now are so much bigger.

Yep, I had one of those in dash ones in my NA. The center of the dash bezel got in the way and you could hardly even get a can in there. Had to bend it in the back to make it fit. I like mine a lot better now. Got a 42 ounce cup in there, no problem!
