Matt or anyone else that might know, what transmission is used when using the Escort 1.8L
If the Capri XR2 is not used then what is used for the Axle's & Hubs?
-
The BP from the Escort bolts directly to the XR2 transmission, the clutch is the same. The BP oilpan is different, so there are some smaller bolts that will not line up with the bellhousing but generally this is not regarded as a problem. The 4 main 17mm bolts and starter bolts all line up the same
The BP is longer, so you'll need to clearance the passenger side framerail and modify or make a new passenger side engine mount for the BP. I use the B6T mounts and slotted them to work
TL;DR: XR2 transmission works fine

So all the XR2 eng mounts work, I knew that you needed to notch the one side. Can you post a pic of what you did.
I think I plan to buy an escort gt. I want to do the harness swap as well. Megasquirt makes a PNP ECU for it!

My setup is going to be somewhat different, I have the AWD transmission with custom front & rear mounts. I believe I set it up to bump it a bit to the d/s for better balance up front.
There's a PnP for the Capri as well... you're going to do MS though, I'd do it right. Get Miata CAS and coildpacks or do a ford EDIS-4 ignition. The PNP's are great but you're still left with crap ignition systems, which is one of the major reasons of going to MS in the first place
That said Escort harnesses are easy to come buy on Clubprotege, I think I even have one myself

I can pick up a GT around here for 1k or less running, Take what I need & part out the rest & break even.
