Another bad distributor?!?!
« on: March 25, 2012, 02:22:00 PM »

Sorry about all the distributor posts, but wow.

Bought one from RockAuto in Dec.
Ignitor went bad after a few hours of use. They sent another unit on a warranty replacement.

Got it Thursday. Put it in, no spark. None at all.

My mechanic confirms - bad distributor. Man...

RockAuto will refund money, but will NOT send another distributor. Company policy of only one warranty replacement, then a refund only...

Guess I need to order from someone else.

I do not trust store rebuilds on distributors, particularly for the capri. Your incidents are not isolated, unfortunately.

I have considered offering a distributor rebuild service myself

I have come across bad ignitors New in the box.

Does anyone recall the name on the package???

These are likely fitted in the reduilds too.

It can be a very expensive frustration.

I think potentially this may have to do with an alternate, "cheaper" module being used in place of the correct one.  Such as in the other post about ignitors, potentially where 2 numbers showed the same part, it can be that the circuit differs from the correct design.

all three of the ignitors were mitsubishi brand and yes, if you are not on a first name basis with the parts counter guy, you could have a hard time getting a exchange/refund.

Just as a follow up in case anyone searches on this thread...

RockAuto did agree to send out a third distributor to me after the second had arrived DOA.

Put it in. Car fired right up, runs fine (for now).

Just wanted to post that RockAuto did do the right thing in the end.
