Yep, you can install a cone filter or make a cold air intake. Opening up the exhaust will help too but don't go too big with it.
I make adapters for the VAF, if you're interested:
You might be able to tweak your timing a bit too

When we get more proformance by modding, does that mean, we will get less MPG or not big of a change? I sure like to boost up my n/a sometime soon. All about looks for now.

It will get less MPG if you're beating on it but *generally* you will get better mileage because you're making the engine breathe more efficiently.
When my XR2 was still 1.6 & FWD, but heavily modded, I would get up to 36mpg highway

Well I'm making progress I got the head off everything is looking pretty good cleaning the block up as well as the engine compartment.. Im taking the head to a buddy that is going to test it for cracks and clean it up.. Looks like I better replace the starter and alternator while im at it alot easier with the head removed.... Thanks so much for your help Rocket and everyone else that gave me advice...

The alternator can be done from the top by moving the idle valve. If you've done it before it will take less than an hour start to finish.
The starter is trickier but can still be done with a fully assembled engine

Ouch... Do you have a pic of it? These heads are not really known for cracking.
You can use a head from any Capri. They're all DOHC & the only difference turbo/nonturbo is the camshafts. Ask Russ if he has a head for sale
