Title: Bad Left Window Regulator
Post by: Dillon on August 31, 2008, 11:40:00 AM
My left window regulator failed this week.   Thanks to some online posts from the group I have the door apart and access to the assembly.  A few have also posted repair instructions -- most helpful.   I have yet to pull out the regulator.   The motor works, but the assembly binds up.  At this point I suspect a frayed cable.

Anyone willing to trade a working assembly for mine plus some dollars?

Any tips on installation to assembly once the rivets have been drilled out?

How important is it to replace the plastic lining in the door?  Mine was covered with dirt inside and out.   I suspect I am carrying around quite a collection from Kansas (previous home of 16 years) inside the walls of my car.

Thanks,
Dillon

Assembly has been removed from the door.   One end of the cable has come loose from the assembly.   It appears that the nylon is worn out.  The excess cable is now wound up inside the spool.   Has not yet removed the clamp and looked inside.

Regulator is apart.   Cable ends around the spool are slightly bent.  Nylon connector has failed to hold one cable to the lifter.  A new method to attach the cable to the window lifter is needed.  Anyone have a replacement left regulator assembly?

With help from previous online posts, encouragement from Russ, and more than half a day's effort, the window has been repaired using cable from Home Depot, and steel putty to terminate the cables and lock them in place.  Time will tell, but it works great now.

I'm thinking of doing the other window just to prevent breakage and grease the assembly.   Probably hasn't been done in 17 years.

Probably wouldn't hurt to do the other side!

I had a problem with cable breaking through nylon retainer.  I took out regulator, tied ends with lock wire,"maybe overkill"  put foil on back and J-B weld oppsite side of foil. Needed another person to redo cable around spool, so far so good!
