I want to replace the seats in my Capri and was wondering what seat would be a direct replacement besides our own..... I've heard rumors of ZX3 seats and probe seats.. are these direct fit?
-
bump
-
the zx3 seats require fab. im not shure of direct bolt on seats. i have looked a little and to with no luck. sorry im not much help.
-
anyone? I know I saw someone on here who mentioned seats out of a 94 probe gt, are these direct fit?
-
I dont remember seeing anything about Probe GT seats...
I think Richter12x2 was the one who put focus (escort maybe?) ZX2 seats in his capri
*shrugs*
I dont know what to tell you, not much info here. Sounds like either way you'll have to make new brackets (which isnt very hard, really)
-
Who knows.... i think I'll just go and look at various seats at the junk yard sometime this week. Anyone have any suggestions as to what is a pretty comfortable but good looking seat that might fit in the car?
-
not shure on this but maby a seat from a mazda 323. everything else from that car is useable in our capris.
if only 2nd gen supra seats would fit... (http://graemlins/devil.gif)
-
I'm going to fab something up to mount whatever seats i get, so... will the supra fits not fit size wise or just bolt patterns don't line up at all?
-
i dont know. i have not looked at the supra frame, i just said that because those are some of the most comfortable seats i have ever sat in......
-
Hmmmm.... I'll look into that, any other ideas on some comfortable yet sporty seats? my thinking is if APC can include brackets to make their seat universal, i can build something to fit almost any seat into our cars, we'll see i suppose.
-
keep us informed on your progress, pictures are awesome too!
-
Anyone think of (FB)RX7 high-back seats? I know they are comfortable and should be easy to find since most RX7 owners buy racing seats anyway. Custom bracket would be needed but still...
-
I'm really thinking my next buy is going to be corbeau forza racing buckets.
$220 a piece. I donno, only 19 lbs too though.
-
I like the rx7 seat idea. Plus, we could wire in the speakers. (http://smile.gif)

Richter put ford focus seats in the capri... ...they are not a direct fit... ...custom brackets had to be made... ...AND I dont think any seat is a direct fit... ...not even racing seats.

Ok first... ...how easy is it to find an FB rx7?!? I mean FBs are harder to find than FCs... ...and FCs are harder to find than FDs... ...when was the last time you say an FB?
Second.. ...the reason WHY most RX7 owners buy racing seats is because the old seats look like crap... ...Now, I'm not saying theyre styled bad... ...Im saying thats due to their age and butt wear... ...they are usually discolored, ripped, cracked, you name it. And the very fact that FBs are first gerneration RX7s (1979-1985)... ...youre looking at a VERY old seat... ...almost all would be in horrible shape. And even if you found one that was good... ...theyd probablly be VERY expensive as rx7 owners wishing to restore their "classic" to JDM spec will want the original seats.
Now then, theres nothing wrong with swapping seats (although I wished we had kept our old ones) but I just want you to know theres other options out there. Since youre pretty much stuck with fabricating your own brackets to make it work, you can pretty much choose any seat you want, but heres some tips to remember...
1) get them from a 2 door... ...make sure they an fold forward
2)get one from a samll car (miata, mini, etc) the bigger the seat, the more likely the wind will now hit your face.

what about subaru? the mid to late 90s imprezas, those that ive found in upullits dont have alot of wear and tear , has anyone tried a pair of those
-
my gc8 impreza seats are okay nothing to brang for.. I have apc seats in my capri on custom fabbed rails an I love them. ebay has cheap seats if your looking for or anything new, if your in the used market look for fc rx7 buckets... I miss my fc now lol... or s2k and rsx seats.. they have pretty solid bolsters and also comfortable.. especially s2k's!
-
well the only reason i say this is cuz i happend to stumble across a really nice pair of factory sports seats in a 95 model awd subaru n/a with hardly any wear at a upullit, and also, has anyone ever seen an fc with a back seat, and i mean a factory installed back seat? cuz i found one in the same upullit.
-
The 2+2 option in fcs were to reduce insurance cost... kinda rare depending on what gen fc whether it be a s4 or s5.. all fcs can be swap to 2+2, they are all pre fabbed, unless convertible like mine. first generation rx7s hsd same option
-
There is really nothing that is "bolt-on" that will fit the Capri, except Capri seats. Everything else will have to have mounts fabbed up.
Grab a tape measure and measure whatever you find at the PNP..If'll they'll fit in the space intended for Capri seats, you can make brackets, then there ya go....
-
I am currently putting a set of seat from a 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII. I have the passenger side in, and will be working on the drivers side in the next day or so.
-
I have to say that these were "bolt" in...
They came with universal sliders. They literally bolted to the floor without any modifications. Just drilled the holes and fit perfect.
Seats are checkers special with Universal Sliders

So this adapter replaced or add-on to fit?
-
I dont have the photos of them drilled to the floor board any more
There are 2 "ribs" that they sit on & you just secure them there. Literally took me about 1hr to get them installed.
-
drill to the floor board? arent they thin? the OEM hole is actually a soldered on bolt aint it?
-
those ribs were thick enough and i used like 3/8 bolts make for sheet metal

Working on fitting these seats now:

Theyre from a 1993 Honda Civic hatchback. Seem to be much higher quality sliders, plastic, adjusters, etc... also much lighter.
The sliders actually look like they might directly interchange with the Capri sliders, however the Capri is 16" between rails and the Honda seats are 17" between rails. I'll probably cut & weld the ears to make everything fit

Mazda Protégé seat swap. Pretty simple job and the seats fit nicely. I sheared off the mounting brackets on the mazda seats and then used some heavy duty "L" shaped aluminum across the front span of the seats to tie into the existing mounting bolt insets. Then bolted the seats to the aluminum span. I used flat aluminum between the rear mounts and bolted that down too.

Audi TT heated leather seats. Sit nice and low.

From a 1998 BMW 318i. Heated with about 6 positioning levers for great comfort. Heat switches fit into a '94 console where the power window switches were with a tiny trim to fit. Had to make some attachment brackets, but I love them.

Wow, OLD thread, lol...
Anyway, I fitted a pair of 2000 Audi TT gray leather seats, and they look factory. I had a welder guy fab them up, and he said it was fairly easy to do. Found them, along with the matching Audi TT back seat pieces, on Craig's List for $125. Fabricator charged me $100 per seat to mount them, but it was money well spent. Will try and post pics later...
-
Im pretty sure Russ/CapriTypeR has Audi TT seats in his Caprisenburg. They looked really good!
-
Here's a pic of the 2000 Audi TT seats in the XR2...got the front and rear seats off Craig's List for $125, cost $200 to get them mounted...much more comfortable than the stock seats...I'm hoping there will be enough leather to cover the XR2 back seat...

The guy I bought them from has a daughter who has a black TT, and she wanted an all black interior, so the gray seats came out. He was packing up his house for a move to Japan, so he just wanted them gone. I got the front bucket seats and the matching rear seats for $125. My plan is to hopefully use the leather from the TT rear seats to redo the stock XR2 rear seats, so they'll match the front TT buckets perfectly. Not in a hurry for that one though, just ordered a set of H&R lowering springs, have my eye on a nice set of 15" alloys and 205/50s, have an occasional clunking/buckling sound coming from the front when it's turned to the left (probably bushings of some kind?), etc. But a nice set of seats will make driving the car a lot more comfortable, in addition to giving it a more sporty look and feel. Even the guy that did the seat swap couldn't believe how well it turned out. The Audi gray leather is a perfect match for the gray interior of the XR2, and the fact that they're so much more comfortable than the stock seats is definitely an added plus!
I'll admit I'm a Craig's List junkie, have found SO many cool things on there...! Like these Cobalt SS Recaro seats I snagged for $200, and they bolted right into my 2000 Sonoma with an LT4/T56 combo. Much more comfortable than the stock split bench, and they look perfect in that truck. I added some SS badges on the front quarter fenders, just in front of the leading edge of the doors, so it all ties in together. The truck is all black, lowered, cowl hood, 17" wheels, etc., and I got an interesting comment the other day. This older guy says to me, "I didn't think they made an SS truck in this size", obviously referring to the full-size SS trucks that were woefully underpowered when they came out. When I told him they didn't, this is just a V8 conversion with some Cobalt SS seats and SS badges, he couldn't believe it. Love getting compliments like that!

Hi All
My 1994 XR2's drivers seat is knackered. (Australian slang for stuffed) As these are like hens teeth to obtain i'm looking for a pair of replacement seats. Please bear in mind that as I'm "NOT" vertically challenged I need seats that sit as low or lower than the original XR2 seats. Anything that sits higher would have me looking out over the top of the windscreen.
So fellow Caprians what can you in all your combined wisdom suggest I replace them with.
cheers

I put some MB SLK seats in one of mine and had to space them up an inch and it is still lower than the original seat.
