Title: A look at a future TeamCapri?
Post by: Rocketman on April 06, 2012, 09:09:00 PM
This is what I envision TeamCapri looking like in the future
This is an edited VBulletin forum main page (pulled from another car forum), made to look like TeamCapri - it does not work & is purely for show, but to help visualize what this place could become...

What are your thoughts?

Great look.  How easy is the forum to navigate?  Looks similar to a couple of others I belong to and they are a breeze.  Kerry

Thanks! Kerry - pictured there is a VBulletin forum, it's extraordinarily easy to navigate.

The features I like the most are thread subscriptions ( you can keep track of notable threads, or see when a thread you made/replied to is updated)
Also has a nice organized New Posts (unread posts since your last visit) and with one click you can also see every thread updated in the last 24 hours.

A nice feature too is integrated photo galleries you can upload pictures to, as well as attaching a picture directly to a post. I believe it's easy to have blog-style posts on your user profile as well.

The search function is also super quick on them!

I think it comes down to the financials and making sure the transition doesn't cause us to lose any of the valuable information from this forum. Also, I am sure the "powers that be" are very busy and can only work on this in their spare time.  :D

Love it! Looks clean but only one critique would be, if possible with VBulletin, more personalization. Maybe the taillight profile of the capri as the icon next to the forum divisions would add some character. Or just the XR2 Badge would be cool too. I'm really excited about the upgrade to the search feature sounds great!

The cost of purchase would be what, about $250?

Does someone donate hosting service?

I admin a few vB's at work, and have experience installing, configuring, and modifying it as well.

Not that I'm volunteering to give my life away, but I'd be available to help out a bit if a "boost" is needed to get started.

it will be happening soon. the donations will no longer be made to me any more. i placed the last of what money plus my own to give the site atleast 2 more years, and it will be up to future donations to the new site owers that will make it possible. it is not cheap to make the site upgrade to a new site forum.

Both Genvibe (I no longer own one) and the Subaru Forester Owners Group have this format.  it would be great.

Ownership was transferred over today, and the new owners are some faceless, soulless internet conglomerate that feeds off of small enthusiast forums........

We now have a backup copy of the website so if anything should happen, the site can be restored  (http://smile.gif)

I've contacted a gentleman familiar with the UBB.classic software, and we are in the process of negotiating a software upgrade. I'll make a new post about this later to let everyone know.

I will miss the years of fun on this site.  I miss Bill "zsa zsa" Gabor and the multitude of others that spent time here dogging each other out.

it will still be the fun site it has always been, just needs new owners that are still in love with the capri to give the site a face lift it needs.
