Rear brake calipers
« on: September 17, 2023, 02:45:31 PM »

So I ordered 2 rear brake calipers from Rockauto.com.  A right and a left.  But I received 2 lefts....apparently one was misboxed or returned incorrectly.  I contacted RockAuto and the rear calipers are no longer available through them.  They don't even show them listed with the option to be notified when back in stock.  I work at a parts store and they are not available through us either.  Anyone have an extra right side they would trade for a left or know where I can purchase a Right side rear caliper that isnt used?

Frankly, I'm amazed you found one new rear caliper. I've been hunting for a pair for at least a year now...and they're all gone. From what I've heard, one of the parts store chains will send them out and have them rebuilt for you.

My advice, just treat them like gold. Be super careful when servicing your rear brakes. And just pray like hell they don't fail.

Well that certainly looks correct. I'll happily do unspeakable thinks for the opportunity to buy your spare, too.

You just need a hammer and punch to remove the old race, if you cant just yank it off with the axle nut threaded onto the end of the spindle. A hammer and big socket, or hammer and seal driver, will put a new race back in. It's not hard to do.

Beware of buying car parts on Amazon. for some reason they aren't described very well.

Only car parts I've bought on Amazon previously have been tires and header bolts.  I doubt I'll get this caliper but with how rare they are I decided to take a chance.  Also ordered a rear strut from summit that has a projected ship date of October 5th... we will see if that actually happens as well....

Theres some rear shock bodies for you. You'll need mounts, bump stops, insulators, and possibly springs if you want to completely rebuild them. The rest of that stuff is available on Rock Auto, look for a fwd 1989 Mazda 323 GT. Same stuff I've got on my car, feels pretty solid.

I'd encourage you to be extremely careful disconnecting the trailing arms from the shocks in the back. Don't remove the front-most bolt from the trailing arm, just loosen it and swing the arm out of the strut. I had both ends give me issues; you can drill out the strut end but the other side has a captured nut in the rocker. You absolutely do not want to fuck up that captured nut.
