Title: Suspension Overhaul!
Post by: Timmygt on January 13, 2008, 06:21:00 PM
So I have a 93 XR2 that has mostly stock parts on it. I wanted to completely replace the suspension on the car with a little bit of a drop. keep in mind I also wanted to replace the rims with 17" rims.

what parts should I look at replacing and with what brands?

do you just use parts from a Mazda because I don't see very many listings for Capri parts at all. what about rubbing, did you have any problems with that?

any parts from a front wheel drive bf 323 will fit a capri.  check out corksport.com and look at their 323 section they have multiple options for shocks, springs, coilovers, and strut tower bars

323 1989 works, just not for the gtx.

the capri engine is very similar hardware, not ecu and wiring, to the 323 of 89, the turbo version 323 is similar to the xr-2, they use the same 1.6l b6d and b6t (turbo) engine.

Actually the N/A engines in the 88-89 323 were SOHC 8v versions of the B6. The internals are similar but the head, manifolds, and assorted accessories are different. The only capri to use SOCH engine was the 89 austrailian n/a.

i've got an 8v
i feel special but not in a good way  =)

timmy, you can take one of 2 avenues. get a complete coil over unit which alot of the guys here are running or keep the original spring perch on strut assembly.
coil overs as mentioned before are a complete unit and i imagine straight replace without much fuss.
otherwise you'll need lowered sports springs, heavy duty shocks and if you have money to spare fork out for sway bars and new bushing. throw a strut brace into the shopping cart while you're at it =)

but depends on what you want. if you want just looks and not so fussed about ride all you need to do is replace springs for AU$300. your shocks will be shot after a few months and car will probably bottom out alot
but if you want it to handle proper and no doubt safer you'll have to get everything else.

for 17" rims you'll need low profile tyres, maybe 205/35. i have 16" rims with 205/45 and they scrub from time to time around hard corners.

tell us what you decidde what to do
