hey guys, ive got an issue... my lovely vj hybrid has started making the tell tale dentists drill allong with the boost... meaning im about to go through my first turbo on this car.....

with the boost controller still at 18psi, i was only able to get it to push 15psi tonight. so already its losing the compressor wheels tight fit... due to the bearings getting sloppy and allowing the wheel to contact the inside of the coldside AKA the dentists drill...
or kinda like a rotary tool turned up really high cutting or grinding metal....
needless to say its crunch time for me and my skills are about to be tested .... im going to try my hardest to get the mitsubishi turbo on the car before the MACG...
this involves getting a wastegate to work, and re flanging the corksport downpipe to fit..
amongst the other install headaches that come with it .....  well i may not be on the forum much for the next couple.. but ill hop back on from time to time with updates and pictures
wish me luck.....GO!!!

The VJ hybrid you have is way overspooling at anything past 16psi, you will kill bearings real quick like that. VJ series turbos dont like a lot of boost.

Get that Mitsu turby on there and get it to the meet!

success.... ok after dicing a 250.00 corksport downpipe and 20 testfits fabricating a w/g actuator.. 1 broken return line.. over 6 feet of welding bead laid and breaking my oil t off in the block (i got very lucky)

my capri is finally 14b boosted and leak free(crosses fingers)
yes it took me and chris white (krys) all weekend and into this week (actually today i finally got the brocken piece out of the block and got it to quit leaking oil...)
id say 30 hours spent under the hood, and  argueing about angles and geometry with chris...

figuring out that the actuator is in the way of my coolant return from the turbo and deciding to go with just oil and turning up the time on my full auto timer....

needless to say this was a huge PITA......
but man, i know im making over 200 hp on 14psi with this thing ...

not half as much lag as i expected...it spools somewhere between a vj14 hotside and vj11 hotside...full boost arround 3500-4000 and will pull well past where my capri will rev....on theese cars it just never stops pulling....

ill post pics tomorrow ....

it looks like the placing of fans in the front is a must...

whats your water temps like when you changed the fans?

gost...the temps stayed close to the same... i guess if you hold it in boost for a while it seems to heat up a little quicker...
i vented my hood so with the added airflow at cruising speeds it stays arround 180 at stoplights it may get to 200...  and 220 is in boost hot.... so normal temps for my car....

jj ...thanks man, ive got, i dont even know how many hours sittin here... it took two years to get this far... and just under $5000 in mods

the real reason i havent dropped cams in it is, i still call it stock block, head, and cams, when opposed.. kinda a way to talk the car down but
not lie.. technically i used to say it had the stock turbo guess that goes out the window now....LOL
