Air Bag System Removal?

Anyone in the states removed the air bag system yet to install an aftermarket wheel?

i been really thinking about it. just not sure what adapter will work

Mines already half out, I have my steering column ripped apart, The option I'm going with is a weld on quick removal hub, From what I found, there are no bolt on kits.

Also, it seems removal of the air bag system in the us is illegal, so uh, my capri didn't have airbags? lol   :rolleyes:

The only problem I can think of, is if the car will still run without the system hooked up, I hope so anyway.

i see people driving all the time with duct tape covering the bag location..LOL so i am sure it will drive.

can you take a photo with the wheel off i want to see the bolt. i am sure something have to mount in there. i wish i could weld damit!

the car will run, i ran my car withough an air bag in all that happens is the air bag light will constantly flash.

I'm removing everything, so I shouldn't have any problem with the light, It will be gone as well hah.

I'm going to look into some hub adapters some more, but I don't think I'll find anything.

I'll keep you guys updated.

The splined shaft, is welded onto the steering column shaft. the rest bolts onto the quick release.   :cool:

when you start tearing the srs out thare is also a chime that will beep 5 times over and over
it will drive you crasy if you dont take everything out.. the beeper itself is located somewhere near the fuses under the dash on the drivers side.. ive removed the sensors and unplugged the box in front of the shifter under the center console and it quit beeping
thare are 3 sensors (black box aprox.4in x 4in)
in the front under the handy shelf our cars have between the headlights.. behind the bumper..
as far as the airbag removal itself i havent got there yet. just the sensors. when i removed the bumpers front and rear to drop more weight...

Yeah, I'm removing everything associated with the air bag system. I got my quick release today, already have it mocked up, pics soon!

Here's some pics, I kinda guessed and ordered the 3/4 knowing I could return it if it didn't fit, but low and behold it is a perfect fit, straight on with no gaps should be rock solid once its welded. Very happy with this setup, should work out well.

   
   
   
   
   
   
   

Once its welded and painted so its not purple. I can reassemble the column and we'll see how well it works. I'll take a pic once my steering wheel gets here.    :cool:

One problem, the stock key ignition setup gets in the way of the quick release, I'm going to use a dash mounted key and push button start.
