Stock Shifter Adjustments?

What adjustments can be made to the stock (1991) 5-speed shifter? As it is now when I throw it into first (or third) my hand hits the center console. It feels 'loose & sloppy' as well. Is there a 're-build kit' or some suggestions as to correcting this?   Thanks

You'll need new bushings for the rod linkage. I believe ZXTuner.com sells bushing kits.
