sun roof idea

has anyone thought about putting a sun roof or a t-top roof on the hardtop?

Yes - a sunroof in the hard top has been done a few times before. I think someone on the Yahoo! board had pictures of it.

T-tops would be tough to do.

I remember back in the 80s.  There was a shop down in Missouri they had a shop that does those things.  My brother got his T-top put on his Camero.  They also do convertibles on non convertibles.  My neighbors got his druck done, that's how my brother knew about it.  They were listed in the back of the Popular Mechanics listing.  Once again, that was back in the 80's.  There's more regulated and policy with modern cars now.

So, it's possible if you can find those shop.

I don't see what you think makes a sunroof so hard.  Just pull one off a saturn SC2, take the wires, and run it around to the defroster.  Worst case scenario you cut a hole in the roof and have to drop the headliner to get it to fit.

Targa on the other hand should be pretty easy.  You just sawzaw the middle bit, fab up some brackets for the rear, and cut the front and make a bracket there as well.  It's not like the capri uses the hardtop for structural support.

Sunroof = easy

Targa = not so much.

RC, Have you had a hardtop on your capri? It does stiffen up the car. If the front isn't bolted down tight, you'll see just how much the frame flexes. The hardtop isn't structural per se, but if you had just a targa top there it's going to need some beefy fasteners to keep it from popping out or rattling around when driving.
