So I my Capri. Hit 250 on the temp and I shut it off now idk if my water pump is bad or maybe my thermostat is bad

Check to make sure the water pump/alt belt is still there before checking anything else

I will look and see but im pretty sure its there cuz the chargeing light never came on

Okay, you didn't mention that in the first post. But it's still an easy place to start.

Is there coolant still left in the system? Was there a catastrophic leak somwhere that cause total coolant loss (radiator hose, etc)?

If everything looks okay I'd suspect a water pump failure, or perhaps a stuck thermostat. But I'd recommend checking for head gasket integrity before attempting to fix anything

I wanna say thermostat cuz in the winter it never really got hot for heat wise

If it didn't get warm it was probably stuck open. A stuck open t-stat would not cause it to overheat, it would still run cold.

Perhaps you have a major clog in one of the lines.

Again, check to make sure you did not warp the head by overheating it prior to starting any repairs

I think I figured out y it over heated my fan won't kick even if I unpluget from the temperature sensor in the thermostat housing

Your sensor is bad....I carry brand new ones, if you need one.

Sensor might be bad... or the relay could be bad... or there could be a fuse blown... or the fan motor could be shot. Troubleshoot easy things first before poking & hoping by throwing parts at it

Again, check to make sure you did not warp the head by overheating it prior to starting any repairs

Rocketman how do you know if it's the sensor or fan? I checked relay with one from my other cars but don't wanna pull fan or anything unless I know for sure...unplugged from sensor and fan didn't turn on changed out relay from car that fan works on but no change...(btw it was fuel pump on other car had one on shelf good to go now)..

Unplug the fan and jump it..if it works look at the sensor.

Aaron,
I tested my fan from the battery.
I believe I had a bad relay or sensor one time and I drove for weeks with the AC turned on.

- The fan runs 100% of the time with the AC switched to the ON position.
- Also, you can unplug the wire from the peak of the thermostat housing -- the fan will also run 100% of the time.

If it's a sensor, the fan will run in either case.
If it's a relay, the fan *may* not run in either case.
