Title: 17x7.5's?

I see a few people on here are running 17x7" with 205/40/R17's with no rubbing issues.

I have procured a set of 17x7.5", 40mm offset. Would that amount of extra wheel width cause it to rub if I went with the 205's.

If so, should I go with wheel spacers or just drop to 195/40/R17's to clear. I hear wheel spacers can make it hard on your bearings but only yokohama makes those 195/40's, there's so many more brands (at cheaper prices and higher treadwear) with the 205's, plus more rubber on the road.

From what I have read, the only 17" tire that will work without spacers is the 205/40/17. A lot of folks run spacers and I haven't heard of any issues, but I haven't done it myself. I'm running 205/40/16 and they're awesome!

Put them on, had to use spacers on the rear.
Used 1/4" spacers and now have enough strut clearance to almost fit my index finger in between.
Wrapped them in BFGoodrich g-force Super Sport A/S's in 205/40/ZR17.
Tested them out on some 270° freeway onramps & they are wayyy better than the stock size/cheap tires I had on before. No screaching and vastly improved understeer.  

Next up is some tokiko struts and H&R springs.  (http://smile.gif)

Hmmm....went out to properly test the limit of these tires. Was going to see how much it took to break them loose. But before I could I heard a sound I hoped I wouldn't.

Tire rubbing fender.

Not sure whether it's front or rear but I hope a stiffer suspension will bring down the body roll. Maybe one of those midco (I guess it's roo-sport now) strut tower bars would help too.

I really don't want to buy a fender roller.

Strut bar is cool but probably wont help.

Wides tires rub on the front in some turn positions.  Take the tire off and you may see the "clean spot" in the well.  Its possible to beat the area out of the way.

You're running the wrong size wheel, probably with the wrong back spacing. If you want to run 17's, the only size that works is 17X7, with stock backspacing. The only tire that works is a 205/40R17. Anything else, and you will have problems with rubbing.

There is a clean spot on the rear that spans about half the lip on the underside. Looks like cutting the spacers from 6mm(1/4") to 3mm and/or rolling that lip up will get rid of the rubbing from the fender. Found a place here that will roll it for $50 a fender. I think i'll go that route and see what happens. I like the wheels I got an awful lot to go get different ones.

The shop said the fronts started rubbing when they lowered it so ended up getting all four rolled. It's been a couple weeks and I don't see any problems.
