Title: Manual transmission shift rod bushings
Post by: Jim on July 12, 2003, 05:30:00 PM
91 XR2 Turbo with manual tranny. I started to hear a metal klunking when shifting but car shifted fine. Looked for the noise and if you look into the engine compartment over the engine and straight down the firewall you can see the shifting rod that attaches to the tranny. There is a joint that the rod passes through and mine no longer has the rubber? bushing and spacers. Ford/Mercury dealer tried to order but said they're NLA. Anyone had this happen and know where I can get the parts or something I can use so I won't have metal on metal.

Try looking for the part as a Mazda 323 86-89 GT or Escort Turbo 87-89.

I called a Ford/Mercury/Mazda dealer in Danville KY today and the parts guy helped me out with the bushing, sleeve, and spacers that are supposed to fit the shifting rod of my 91 XR2. After I get them if they don't work I'll let the list know, otherwise parts are as follows.
Description  Capri Part#  -  Mazda Part#

Sleeve       7KQ47           B09246047
Bushing      7L259           B09246047
Spacers      99952-1030      999-521-030
