Title: Small plastic box on the side of the ignition switch
Post by: Kiwimagic on September 19, 2022, 11:01:56 PM
Hi All
On the side of our ignitions switchs there is a small plastic box (3cm x 1.5cm)

it has two wires coming from it which are part of a 4 pin white connector. The other two wires going to that connector come from the rear of the ignition switch.
On all my Capri's only two of those wires are used.
My question is
What do they do ??
When the key is in the ignition the plastic box which has contacts in it completes a circuit to god knows where. Once you remove the key the circuit is broken
Any ideas as to where and what the function of this is.

cheers

Pick the second link, then scroll down to page 19. There, you'll find the wiring diagram for the start/charge system. Looks like you've got three wires to/from the ignition switch: a red one which comes from the 80A main fuse and the alternator, then two black/white wires, one which gets that power in "start" and one that is powered in "run". I don't have my car with me to check, but I have to imagine the two wires you are talking about are the main outputs from the ignition switch.
