Can anyone tell me what these are?
« on: April 02, 2010, 03:07:00 AM »

What are each of these? And which are required to run? I know the Capri had an electronic boost gauge sender and overboost sensor. I just don't know whats what. Also where do the vac lines go?

And can I get away without a purge canister and solenoid?

Ive been told 1 and 2 are overboost and baro, both required (for now). Is 3 the boost gauge sender? I think 6 and 7 are purge solenoids, both the Capri and festivas. Can I ditch them?

Which ones for the pressure regulator?

Gotta keep the overboost sensor for now.

boost gauge is 1 and the regulator is next to number 2 with 2 vacuum hoses going to it ... i think you should keep it because rocket man said it helps with hot day restarts or something i bypassed mine because i broke the plastic nipple :-/

#1 is the overboost sensor. Looks like its been mounted differently?

#2 is the base baromentric pressure sensor for the ECU

#3 is the boost gauge sensor

#4 looks like a relay? Can't really tell.

#5 is the FPR solenoid. It closes on a hot start to increase fuel pressure to keep boiling fuel out of the fuel rail

#6 is the canister purge solenoid.

#7 i'm not sure off the top of my head

looks like your solenoids / vac lines have been messed with quite a bit

anything that connects to the canister normally can be removed and plugged if you dont need emissions

Well, this IS a festiva were looking at here...  ;)

I guess 7 is also a purge solenoid, the festivas.

If 5 is the FPR relay shouldnt it have two vac lines? One to manifold vac/boost and one to the FPR?

Yeah, if you look 5 isn't connected to anything, looks like the line is just looped. Does have 2 connections on it though

Its not a super critical part, I ran without one for a while, the early JDM motors didn't use one at all

Well it looks like I will be able to simplify things a bit then. No boost gauge sender and no purge solenoids. I thought about keeping the evap but as long as Im not loosing gallons of gas out of that hose I'm okay.

Hopefully someday I'll be able to afford to get rid of that overboost sensor too

So what happens if the overboost sensor "breaks" while running a stock turbo/ECU?  Also, hi everyone.  I was here for like a week a few months back, and now I'm here again...

Hi JD.

If you're running stock boost & have a stock exhaust you should be okay, just keep an eye on the boost gauge. If you're seeing 10+ lbs then might be a good idea to get things straightened out.

If you want to replace it, I'm sure someone is willing to offer theirs up, and theres also adjustable Hobbs pressure switches you could install.

How did yours "break"?

#4 looks like the relay for the fog lights.

Rocket, it didn't break.  I was wondering if it was safe to unplug.  But the real issue is that I DON'T pay attention to my boost guage, and therefore, entering the highway in 4th can be scary if I'm not prepared for it, so I should probably leave it.  I'm planning on picking up a rocketchip this spring if funds allow, it's really that annoying.  I was just curious.  Thanks

Gotcha. Its there for a reason.

Why not run an aftermarket gauge on the a-pillar? A lot easier to keep track of.

Not actually that worried about it...just annoys me sometimes.  Like I said, I'm hoping to order one of your rocketchips in a couple months, if you're still making them.  Also, would a turbocoupe turbo fit under the hood without much extra stuff?
