Title: RX7 Alternator
Post by: Seth on July 03, 2003, 06:27:00 PM
Just to get things started, I found that the alternator from a Turbo 2nd gen (87-91) RX7 has worked really well in my Capri. The only thing that needed to be changed a little was the electrical connecter to engage the alternator. Other than that it was a bolt on. The reason I’m mentioning this is that turbo RX7’s are a pretty easy to find since their rotary engines rarely make it past 100,000 miles, so things like the alternator would still have plenty of life in it.

there are two different alternators in the 2nd gens.  86-88 have 12 amp and 89-91 have 15 amp, i believe.

ps. my rotary engine has 170,000 miles on it and still has great compression.

I wish! RX7s turbo or base... ...are nearly impossible to find at the salvage yards... ...theyre almost like the capri!... ...only people actually have HEARD of the rx7 atleast. And turbo rx7s on ebay are rare too... ...I've been searching ebay for a turbo hood for months now... ...I finally found one, and it went for like $400! Bezels, vents, you name it, I want it. Only cant find it on ebay... ...and its super expensive. Even more so than capri parts.

And as for the 100,000 miles... ...our rx7 has like 190k miles on it... ...and never been rebuilt.

Yes, very good resource.  I have been a member there for about 1 year, and I bought my RX7 Air meter from there.

Ehhh...we are all car enthusiasts right?  When parts  interchange you have to be in touch with other crowds.  Not sure why it's sad but...

Ha ha! Very true. Whenever I needed help with my mustang, Id hope over to the thunderbird forum... ...cuz out of the million mustangs forums, typically the members are clueless, they'll either diss your car, or tell you to take it to the dealer.
