Blower Resistor Block
« on: June 21, 2011, 10:17:00 AM »

Fan has only one setting.

Research tells me that it's Blower Resistor Block and it's under passenger dashboard. Are all Blower Resistor alike?  I've changed one on a Caravan before.  I would like to know so I know what I'm looking for?

Pull the connector off the thermo housing. with it disconnected the fan should always be on with engine running or key at the start position

if it comes on then odds are the relay is bad right behind the drivers light

you can pull the relay and jumper the wire to see if the fan will come on again. if so then the relay is shot. if not then u can look at the part under the dash. They are hard to see & get too but odds are it could be the relay or thermo switch before your dash part..

Are we talking bout the same blower?  I'm talking bout the heater/AC blower.  Right now it only blow at one speed.

Guy above is referring to the radiator fan.

Either the resistor, or the switch itself are bad.

If ours is the same as the 323, it's an unconventional design.  1 and 2 external wire connectors, with a 2 wire and 4 wire on the base of the unit.  Good news is rockauto sells these for about $35.  Bad news is I can't imagine where this thing must be stuck.

When I took the console apart to rearrange the switch and radios. I'd check the switch should be ok.  NOw, I just need to know exactly where this resistor is so I can take a look if there's any burned.

Oh Gostlrs,
I see your signature has Eagle Talon, anyway you can check it's measurement on the side compare with Capri.  Maybe it's not much work to modify Side Skirt from Eclips/Talon to Capri.

Look under the dash on the PS. You'll see it. it's held up with 2 phillips head screws. It'll have 2 blue wires attached to it.
If you need a new one, let me know - I have 3 sitting on the shelf...

Is this it?

If it is, let me check if there's any burned capacitor or resistor.  Then I'll IM you on price and address.

OK, here's a picture. My apologies...I said 2 blue wires and that was incorrect. There is 1 blue wire, and a harness attached to the resistor. It is located on the blower assembly, closest to the firewall.

Ok, i took it out and looks good to me. No broken or burn coil.  What do you think?  I might have to take a look at the switch again.

I was gonna move the hot/cold switch console down to the bottom but it was kinda tense.

Are there any cables other than wires back there? Garage is kinda dim and outside is cloudy and raining.  I'm afraid to yank it.

Ok, I finally had time to look into AC again.  I was correct, my resistor is still good.  I grounded the cable running from the blower (negative).  Sounded like the fan wants to start but doesn't.  I took it apart and run directly from the battery.  Yep it's dead.

Went in to O'reilys and brought up 91-94 capri blower.  It does't look a bit like what I had.  I asked him to look up mazda 323, viola! $34. Works great, but today it rained and didn't need the air.

My brushes are bad too so I also need a new blower motor. Too bad you can't find $10 brushes anywhere...

So it sounds like a direct fit. what was their part number? Also, did it come with the resistor pack or did you have to swap that over?

It just came as the motor.
YOu will need to transfer the:
1. fan(big plastic part)
2. Hose
3. rubber seal or weather strip, whatever you call it.
