Transmission problem
« on: May 07, 2009, 04:52:00 PM »

i have a 91 N/A with an automatic tranny.  i bought it knowing it had a transmissions leak.  ive taken it 3 different mechanics, including a transmission specialist, and none of them can figure out what is going on.  it will go months sometimes without leaking a drop, and other times you can pour ATF in the top and watch it come out the bottom.  thats how bad it was leaking when i took it to the specialist and by the time he looked at it in the morning it had stopped leaking completely!  its pretty much totally unpredictable.  i have noticed that it seems to happen after going up really big hills or putting alot of pressure on it in some way.  but then it will randomly stop leaking.  does anyone have any ideas????

I'm guessing you haven't removed the tranny to look it over...Check the axle seals, and the lines running to the tranny cooler in the front of the radiator. The input shaft seal could be worn out or unseated, but with the way its randomly working I really dont know. I dont have a lot of experience with automatics.
