Please help me find and understand BOV..
« on: June 10, 2009, 06:37:00 AM »

I have been told by several people I need to upgrade my BOV, along with upgrade the ECU, and add a boost controller.. What is a BOV?? I found mine, it is very small, has a vacuume hose attached, and 2 bigger hoses.. Below is a BOV I found on eBay.. Can you help me understand the BOV, and what I should buy, and how to install it? I am not made of money, so I can't afford to spend a lot.. Thank you all again.

That would be fine for you, but adding it without a hardpipe intercooler kit will make this harder. Sinnce your using the stock intercooler the piping is much smaller, and harder to adapt to. But you could always weld the bung on the stock aluminum intake pipe.

Basic description the bov releases boost pressure so it cannot travel back to the turbo and try and force it to turn backwards causing damage.

I saw rici saying something about how he used the stock recirculation valve, as well as an aftermarket bov, in different spots on the charge tube, but you'll be fine with just a bov.

Is there a hard pipe kit for there? Posible a better intercooler as well? If so, where can I find the parts? That is my biggest problem.. I can't find parts.. What kind of BOV should I get?

you can use any universal hard pipe kit. or intercooler. you want... you need to cut the pipes to fit. and use silicone couplers to fit them together.....

this is a intercooler and hard pipes (universal)
for 159.00 shipped, i found on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CXRacing-28x7x2-5-Intercooler-piping-kit-JETTA-V6-VR6_W0QQitemZ190312359101QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2c4f8024bd& _trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1171%7C240%3A1318

this is where you get to make your car unlike any of ours... theese are a true custom part of building theese cars...

this is my setup.....

now remember one rule to fitting hard pipes...measure 3 times and cut once....

measure and use a sharpie to mark where to cut your pipes. and try to make as Few joints as possible... (use long pieces if you can)
masking tape works wonders to make straight lines arround piping... i use a sawsall but ive done alot of kits.. but you can use a hacksaw with a vice to be more accurate...

anything else that pops into mind just ask....joe

ya we bought a different set though. comes with different pipes and came with a BOV as well.

205 shipped.

we both ran it different ways. you will need someone to tig weld your upper pipe. i paid someone 50 bucks to make mine.

check out my photo set for my set up. took about 3-5 hours to do. i also removed all my A/C parts as well while i was in there.

you will also have to get 3 more hose reducers. 2 on the turbo and one on the VAF

im switching to a civic or integra unit sometime....
i need one big enough to run my 14in fan on... see, i use a huge low profile fan and mount it to the front of the radiator as a pusher, wich is less efficient hence y i use the biggin....

why is a pusher fan less efficient?

i would think it would be the same. i was going to do the same thing and get a dual fan set up when i did the radiator on the front side in between the intercooler and radiator.

when mounted on the front.. a fan reduces the radiators surface area, and the wind dosent hit those spots when the fan is not running..... the fan blocks some wind make sense?
