t-bird fuel injectors
« on: August 09, 2009, 04:58:00 AM »

I have a set of brown top t bird injectors and curious to know if they would work in the capri?
Anyone use a walboro fuel pump in the capri?

I am meeting the guy today to buy a 91 xr2 in great condition.

I have had 3 Galant VR-4's and know how critical fuel supply is.
These may be questions for Rocketman though....

The browntops are 390cc I think. I know the the Isuzu Impulse crowd likes to run these in place of their stock injectors which are a similar size to ours if I recall correctly. I'm not really sure how it would run, my guess it would run pretty rich at most times.

You will need to do some work with the fuel pump though, either re-wire it to receive 14v or install a Walbro with better wiring.

I have installed a Walbro 255lph pump on the my XR2 but its not really being driven on the street yet.

How would your chip act with the injectors?

Is there anyway to burn a chip to compensate for the larger than stock injectors?

Which pump (model #)did you run? Did you have to modify the assembly a lot?

Fuel pump re-wire's are a must on DSM's and GVR4's (no they are not the same).

Also, I see your chip is a 16 psi limit which leads me to ask how that is related to volume?

16 psi on a stock turbo is a lot less than say 16 psi on a 16g or equivelent turbo.

I knew I recognized you from somewhere,

My chip would act like there are still stock injectors in place. I cannot currently tune for larger injectors, as soon as I get my XR2 back up and running its one thing I will be working on again. RCICustoms is running 450cc injectors using a FPR to lower the pressure so the flow closer to stock injectors.

The Walbro I'm running is an external pump, because of my modifications I could not keep the existing fuel tank in place. I had to replace it with a fuel cell in the trunk and it did not have an internal pump hookup. I'm told that most walbro in-tank kits will work, the assembly in there is not all that complicated. The worst thing you might need to do is cut a small piece of pipe the pump nozzle fits into so you can hook up a piece of hose, but some walbros might hook up that way so I dont know.

16psi is the limit of the stock and most hybrid turbos, volume-wise the chip can support just under 400cfm. I was maxing it out on a Tbird compressor at 17/18PSI.

yeah I thought I seen you on the isuzu forum.
would still like to find a 2 dr or 4 dr 89 rs or another 91 impulse rs to mod.

But I will settle for the capri since its something new.

What is your current turn around time on the ecm's?

You'll have a hell of a lot of fun with the XR2, its nice and quick plus its a droptop!

I'm still working on getting my 91 RS going, I dont have much left to go but I've been so busy with work and the GTXR2 that I haven't really been working on it.

Current turn around time is between a week and a week and a half. I have ECU's that already chipped that I can have out in a few days if you want to go that route.

so I can paypal you and you ship it out?

I send the core when I get the new one in right?

are people here pretty much doing the same t-bird compressor upgrade like on the rs?

I guess I will sell the brown tops and buy some dsm 450's or 510's.

You have any interest in some impulse rs fsm's?

trying to hit mid to high 13's for a d.d. so besides intake , exhuast, mbc @ 16psi, your chip and 450's do I need anything else?

People are only starting to run the tbird hybrid here, I'm running one I'm not sure who else is running one.

the 390's might be worth putting in I think anything more will run too rich. most people are still running stock injectors. i am.

Email me at rocketman[AT]werbatfik.com for the rocketchip details, yes you can paypal me.

You'll probably want a good aftermarket BOV or BPV, some good tires to put the power down, make sure your clutch is up to the power. FMIC makes a huge difference too, and if you upgrade your turbo even better

I already have a JI FSM but thanks!

well I have a friend with some dsm 450's and a profec b ebc for sale. think I should buy just the ebc and stick with the t-birds?

Are you running decent a/f ratio's on the stock injectors and the t-bird turbo? Is this the same car with the upgraded walboro pump?

I plan to run a HKS ssq bov like I have been using for years.

I bought the car from the original owner who just put a new clutch, soft top, water pump, timing belt, and radio in about 4k miles ago   :D

Going to run the stock intercooler till I upgrade the turbo to the t-bird hybrid. Is the hybrid the same here as it is on the zuzu's?

I was still getting good AFR's on stock injectors and the stock pump. I was pushing 17psi on the tbird/vj11 hybrid, sometimes creeping to 18psi. I would begin to approach 13.5 on the wideband toward redline, but never past that. Most of the time it would be 12 or less. Fuel pump re-wire would have really helped me. I didn't run the Walbro on this setup.

I do think you'll be good with the browntops.

I sent you an email, I went over some tbird info there. If you have any questions about it just hit me up.
