All Evo 4-8 Turbos are twin scroll designs meaning that the engines exhaust is divided into two channels (see first pic). As the engine exhausts in pulses.. its supposed to result in quicker spooling. From the Evo 4 onwards, the Turbo spins in the opposite direction, i.e. Anticlockwise (hence the R in the turbo name). The Titanium Alumnide alloy used in the RS/RS2 and some GSRS (factory option) has less inertia and thus spins up around 500 rpm sooner. These Titanium turbos can be indentified by the A in their name.

sae2:
Zeen,so can a Evo 7 turbo bolt directly on to a 93gst,no fabrication, and without causing any internal damage [question]

did you make a flange to fit the stop manifold or cut and weld a flange on?

I'm planning on going 16g with custom manifold, but that's quite a while away yet.

made the flange, and centered the stock mani on top of it, and welded arround it with nickel rod.

i ground out the 4 corners to give clearance to the new flanges bolts before welding...
looking at the ihi flange on the mani it went from a square to a + symbol  to clear the bolt holes on the mitsu flange

ill take some better pics sometime to show better how it was flanged... i did not cut the flange off the mani... just added to it
