Smell fuel, rear driver-side, only on full tank
« on: June 25, 2011, 04:25:00 AM »

I've never dropped a fuel tank before.
I smell fuel, at rear driver side, only on a full tank.
Is there a common seal or o-ring that may have failed?
--no sign of fuel droplets when I park..
I don't want to smell fuel..

It's very common for the capri tank to rust, and thusly leak when full. My first capri would piss fuel if I tried to fill it.

Chances are the top of your tank near the filler neck has a pinhole in it letting fumes out.

remove your rear seats & see if the gasket there has failed.

Maybe now is a good time to get a locking gas cap, JUST IN CASE you get lucky and the gasket on your cap is bad.

ok, i had to replace all my fuel lines.
i dropped my tank and determined what the smell was.
below are two pictures.
a vent tube is shoved into a hole in the chassis.
this was weird to me, but explains why i smelled fuel, but no drops?
it could have been one of my rotten fuel lines, but i just didn't have a droplets when i would smell it.

That's the rollover vent valve to prevent the car from exploding in the event of a rollover.  It rarely if ever activates.
