Steering wheel controls
« on: November 08, 2011, 03:07:00 AM »

Has anyone added steering wheel controls to there ride, or changed to a steering wheel with them?

Any suggestions?

I have reverse engineered the controls in the steering wheel, it's setup fairly simple.

However, it appears that there is a significant chunk of dash harness that is only present on cruise-enabled cars, so you can't just grab the cruise computer & plug it in.

I've seen a handful of Capris now with an aftermarket cruise system installed. This seems to be the way to go, you might not get the steering wheel controls though

I am not that concerned with the cruise control as with the radio controls.

Oh. No capri ever came with radio controls on the steering wheel, I'm not aware of any period ford that had them either. That's a whole different ballgame

With this module: http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=212&CategoryID=29

You could use the OEM cruise controls to control a compatible aftermarket radio. Some custom wiring would be involved but it's possible. Uses a similar resistive switch circuit
