WTB : Water Pump Pulley
« on: August 04, 2014, 03:08:21 PM »

I need a water pump pulley for a '91 XR2.  In fact, I wouldn't mind having two   :o

I'm also semi-interested in a "V" belt crankshaft pulley (or two) - I'd like to have the "V" belt pulley that the serpentine belt pulley is bolted to.

Thanks,
Dave

The one on the crank is called the harmonic balancer. It's more than just a pulley :)
From your pictures, I think you have the large-nose crank, but you'll need to confirm that. (there are two different crank styles & thusly different harmonic balancers)

Hmmmm.  I already torqued all that stuff down and I really don't feel like taking it all apart again - maybe I'll just stick with the water pump pulley(s).

As always, thanks Rocket!

The harmonic balancer is only held on by those 4 10mm bolts. The main crank bolt does not retain it.

Does anyone have a water pump pulley I can buy?  There has to be someone with a junk spare motor laying around?

Thanks,
Dave

Okay, not having any luck at all finding a water pump pulley.
Can anyone please tell me what other vehicles used a pulley like ours?  I assume early Miata?

Yeah the last time I did a timing belt change I bent the pulley and used my only spare... where are you, no junk yards near you with a capri?  You'll have a easier time finding a junked capri rather than an early miata or 323...

F1CZ8509A is the part number, search that number, I find lots of places selling Tracer and escort parts with the same part number...

Thank you very much for the part #.   Do we know if a 1.6l Miata water pump pulley is the same as an XR 2 water pump pulley?  (I found a guy who has 2 Miata pulleys)

EDIT :  According to O'Reilly's, the Miata water pump is the same part number as the XR2 water pump - I assume they share the same water pump pulley?

Thanks again,

Dave

The early Miata water pump pulley is the same (pre-94, I think?)
The later models use a 4-rib pulley design which is actually better, but requires getting the harmonic balancer, water pump, and alternator pulleys as a set.
