CV joint is shot. They're pretty common on eBay cheap.

If it happens at a static turn it could be your upper strut bearing.

Balljoints should be OK, but check them anyway shouldn't hurt to replace them if they look old.

Go for an aligment afterwards

is it a constant popping sound? or just an occasional single pop?

i had the occasional single pop, i don't know what it's called but there's a support bar near the middle of the car going off towards one side that was loose. I just bolted that down and sound was gone.

i had the same popping sound im mine till i got new bushings put into the control arms. the bushings can get expensive, so i had a friend cut some bushings from a cavalier to fit.

I just finished my 94XR2 turning is the CV's and I had a thump when I was accelerating and braking, that was the lower control arm bushings. The fool who had the car before me had an alignment with the bad bushings now I’ll have to do it all over again. It pulls to the right a bit.

All the noises are gone though.

you can easily use the red bushing kit at murrys for around 20 dollars and a threaded rod ... thats what i did to my capri and it actually raised the sway bar a couple inches giving it a big difference in turnin

I'd recommend against threaded rod, the link is also a spacer - it holts a bit of a distance. I've tried a bolt before its not the same
