Motegi Wheels
« on: March 23, 2011, 06:47:00 AM »

I found a very nice set of 16X7 Motegi FF7 wheels 42MM offset on Craigslist including Falken tires. Was able to buy the set for $200.

The tires currently mounted are way to big 225/45/16  which sucks because 2 of the four tires are like new.

Looks like a 205/40 16 is the consensus here. Before I shell out for new tire, anyone know if the 16X7 with the 42 offset will work?  I hope so because these will look awesome on my car.

Thanks

idk if they will fit but i would go with a 205/45/16 i have those on my car and saw what 205/40 would look like and it seems like the 45s fill the wheel wells much better imo

Probably best to test fit them first, and go from there. Might be able to get away with the 225's if you use spacers?

The problem lies in the rear wheels where the spring perch is real close to the inner side of the tire. You might get away with this with spacers but you will run into problems with reduced wheel bearing life. There is a trade off of sorts. I made a pressing fixture for replacing the front bearings.

Thanks everyone. The 225's mounted on the wheels now are just way too large. I'd really like to find a tire that does not required spacers.

Going to take her over to the local tire shop for some help in finding a size that might work. I'll try to get some pics up once complete.
