I think it's on top of the starter.

The starter is at the back of the engine up kind of high near the firewall.  I was lying on the ground looking at mine last night and I was thinking, "They obviously wanted to make it a witch to get out when you've got to change it."

I would think the only way you could get the solenoid out is by pulling the starter.  If you could get it out without pulling the starter then you have amazing patience and very thin hands.

Again, I'm not 100% sure that's where the solenoid is but that's where the wires run to and it looks to me like there's a solenoid up there (from what I can tell lying on my back looking up).

Maybe another member can chime in if he knows for sure?

I hope this helps.

I'd like to have the start button thats on the last series Mercedes SLR.  It is under a hinged flap on the top of the gearshift.  So you flip the flap with your thumb and press.  It is pretty cool.

Just pull the whole starter motor out its not that hard...3 main bolts from memory.
I'm installing a Honda S2000 starter button at the moment that I purchased off eBay for $25.
Hopefully that will fix that annoying start problem. The only difficulty I'm having is mounting the Honda button in the Capri.
