Airbag warning light
« on: June 12, 2010, 02:26:00 AM »

My '94 airbag light is blinking once then twice.  "1-2" = "12" = "Low battery voltage."  So the battery cables looked like they might need some love and I replaced them.  Still, the light blinks.

I don't do much electrical trouble-shooting, since I am red-green colorblind.  So I decided to let the local Mercury dealer take a look at it (while he is still a Mercury Dealer). I had to loan them MY shop manual and give them $85! Anybody got any other ideas?

If you go here, you will see more than that:

www.airbagsolutions.com/docs/codes/f/a.pdf

They are all based on 2 series of pulses of the light.  For example, when it blinks 5 times in succession, then stops, then comes back with a single pulse, that would be a "51"

Have you checked the fuses? Not trying to be an ass but code 12 sounds like its lost ALL power

I would use the capri specific codes, not the general ford ones, the manual only shows 10 codes....its early production but only in 94 did anything change on them

I will re-check the fuses, Matt.

Gos, on those codes, the Ford codes is how we traced the airbag light problem on my '93 a few years ago, so I know they are accurate in determining a problem.  In that case, it was a "51," which more specific than the description on the "12." There is a complete list in a pdf on the Yahoo Group site under files and they do cite the Capri in the text.

Someone else just sent me a supplemental from a Ford Technical Service publication that deals specifically with Code 12, so I'm going to try the diagnostics suggested there.

Thank you for posting that code list. That light was driving me crazy at night.
