i never had mine on the eclipse, they could heat up your AC lines a lot and maybe make the temp go up some but i know people remove them all day. especially with upgraded turbos and different manifolds..i just keep mine on because when i buffed them up they look better then the bad looking manifold

I yanked/cut/chiseled all mine off. Except the one on the backside of the turbine.

completely and totally unnessary... ive built 4 b6t engines and we have never kept any of the heatshields on any of the motors...
Then again power steering and A/C were also canned....

the lower tb cover is in place... i dont run an upper... the camgears must be removed to get the back plate off... best to do when your doing a timing belt service and have the timing apart anyway... i race this car so im not as worried about contaminants getting in it or the belt being exposed, cuase im under the hood all the time... and i check things like timing belt tension periodically and a cover would be a PITA
now on your daily driver i would run a full cover...or keep an eye on the belt if you run without one...
the plastic face of the upper cover has 4 10 mm bolts i think, and the rear steel plate has 2 10mm bolts holding it to the head... but there aggain you must remove the tb and camgears...
