Stupid Misfire, and other random questions
« on: March 30, 2010, 03:17:00 AM »

I am pretty new to the Capri game, I run autoX with my 91 XR2, I also own a 91 N/A here is a pic of my XR2

I have a horrible misfire that is obnoxious, when i leave it idle, it reeks of unburnt fuel. This has also caused me to have a huge exaust leak in my CAT. What would be the common causes of the miss? I have already replaced all plugs, wires, rotor, cap. still there, seems to be #1 that is missing (closest to the timing belt). Any suggestions?

I heard through reading on here that I should probably install new Gauges, because the stock ones are off?

Mr. rcicustoms, you are my hero, I want your old car.

Wondering if there is any possible way to fit 205/50R15 R-comps on the car

Looking for an ECU upgrade, but I don’t want to mod my current chip, I want to keep my OEM ECU, to be able to swap the computers so I can run stock car racing, thoughts. Also stupid question, where is the ECU?

Welcome to the forum!! The questions on the miss-fire, I can't answer, however, I can help you with the ECU question.
Your ECU is located under the center console, up against the firewall. Remove both drivers side and passenger side inside kick panels, to remove the computer.
To upgrade your ECU, you only really have 1 choice: ROCKETCHIP!!!  There are bunches of members here on the forum that can vouch for the chip! You can get info here:   RocketChip info

Rocketman can also provide you with a stock-parameter chip, so you would be able to run in the stock classes.

Again, welcome to TeamCapri - enjoy your stay!!

Have you done a compression check on the engine? How long has it been mis-firing?

Aftermarket gauges are always a good idea.

I can chip your ECU for you, I can order a ZIF socket that makes it real easy to swap chips if you're planning on changing them a lot. I also have a handful of XR2 ECU's in stock if you would rather have an extra one.

Presently I am running 195/55/15's on my car (i think they're 55) and I could probably have gone for 205's...not sure now the AWD has different spacing

How do you place in your auto-x? I've always been interested in trying

No compression check yet, I'm too lazy to do it, My main shop is in Cleveland, Ohio. I'm currently living and working out here in D.C.

You think that I could easily fit 205/50R15 R-comps without modifying the stud pattern or the fenders.

Can I get a guess price on buying an extra ECU that is chipped from you?

AutoX times, not the fastest, but not too slow either(considering that I ran with a HUGE exhaust leak, and a misfire). Got around a 51.00 sec's, FTD was 45.56 sec's and slowest was an Audi A8 64.3 +1. go for trying an auto-cross you might enjoy it, ton's of difficulty.

Pricing is on my ECU page : www.werbatfik.com/ecu.htm

ZIF socket is an extra $10.

compression test results are as follows

25 : 135 : 40 : 125

Thinking the exhaust valves on 1 and 3 are not seated correctly and need planing, any id3as on where to find a new head for SUPER cheap? OR can I take the head off my N/A along with the valves and not have to find parts?

Put everything back together, running even crappier
i have an auto x tommorow, looks like i will not be running

Did you squirt oil in each cylinder to see if its the rings or the valves?

You could throw the head on from the N/A, just swap cams... otherwise identical.

yesssir, managed to pressurized the cylinder, leaked ALL the way out the exhaust(at what would be the point of combustion in cylinder #1.
So I should take the head, valves, leave them all attached to the head, then switch cars, replace the timing belt while i'm at it? Sound about right?

Yup sounds right. Takin the valves out is a pain in the ass

Providing its just the valves your car will run 1000 times better with complete compression. I'd check it again too after swapping heads

Someone on here might have a head to sell you if you need, I might even have one, if you dont want to take down the N/A

Hey DC -

I have run 205/55-15s on my '93 NA (stratosphere blue with pic posted here) for over 16,000 miles with no modifications and have never had a problem.

I came of age in DC and went to American University for grad school - one of my favorite cities.  Good luck with your cars!
