did some engine and wiring work on my 91.  which sensor and wire is used for the temperature gage?  I thought it was the sending unit on the thermostat and the gn/red wire but appears to be incorrect.

if my memory serves me right the sender for the temp gauge is the gauge under the intake manifold, our capris have 3 temp gauges, 1 is the temp sender for the radiator fan which is on the tstat housing, 2 is on the bottom of the intake manifold on the driver side for the gauge, 3 i dont remember, i think in the heater core or around there i cant remember so dont quote me on that third one, and that one might be for the gauge and one under intake manifold is for the computer.

Josh,

There are two in the thermostat housing and one on the bottom of the intake.

The ECU uses the one on the intake.

The spade terminal, facing away from the head on the t-stat housing, is for the fan switch.

The single-pin connector, pointing toward the firewall, off the back of the tstat housing is for the temp gauge.

HI All,

Just wondering if anyone has an easy answer but I flushed my radiator on a Turbo 91 last weekend and i notice there is a sender unit on the bottom radiator tank but it isnt connected to anything - just two bronze pins sticking out - it is on the left side of the radiator at the bottom - is this needed for anything?  I note the other sender units discussed in this post earlier....
I am looking at a new 3 core aluminium radiator to help cooling but not sure if this sender is required.

Any thoughts?

Any chance someone could post photos of this all properly connected? After my BP swap, the radiator fan works correctly, but she runs super rich and the temp gauge does not work.

I do have some pics that I took for my swap guide, but I'm in Hawaii right now and about 4500 miles from my home server. Just before leaving I powered it down, so I can't access my files now.

I think the pins i referred to were for outlets to the auto transmission cooler which is obviously not on my manual car?  I now have a new 3 core aluminium radiator (thanks ebay) which fit rather well except for left hand top bracket modification, and had these outlets installed - I had to plug them as I dont need them.  The new radiator works a treat in stabilising the temperature of my turbo manual clubsprint (replica).  I think the previous standard radiator may have been blocked a little or wasn't pressurising well as the temp gauge would vary widely (up to 110 deg C at times).  Removal of the a/c radiator also increased airflow - I do some track work with this car so it needs to keep cool.
