i ran acoss a turbo for a eagle talon... is it the right one to make the hybrid or what.. also if not would it possibly be a good upgrade? any info would be appreciated

The talon turbo is from Mitsubishi and will not mate to the IHI turbos we have. Its possible to use it, but you would need an adapter plate or a custom manifold & downpipe made to make it fit, and without knowing the particular turbo model we don't know the flowrate to determine if its worth the work (probably not)
Look for a First gen (88-92) Ford Probe GT or a 88-92 Mazda MX6 GT or 626 GT. All these cars have the F2T engine which has the IHI VJ11 turbo needed to make the hybrid.

thanks for the info (http://smile.gif) i guess i will ask the guy if he has one of those laying around.. he says he has a few turbos laying around.. hopefully he has one! thanks rocket big help..
btw hows the spool up time on the hybrid? is it a little bit more lag or a lot?

You will not notice any lag...it will hold boost to the redline without falling off.

Yea,you will like the hybrid. I just gave my MBC a couple turns to up boost, I thought 2-3 lbs. With the hybrid each turn is about 3-4 lbs it seems. Pulls much harder and faster and I can't detect any turbo lag. Gonna keep it at10-11 lbs untill I get a boost gauge installed on the pod.Rocky

I wold love to do the upgrade turbo for my car, however, my wallet is saying no right now. Is there anyone who knows of someplace to get a rebuild kit for the stock turbo? Mine is definitely on its way out and now it will sometimes not engage and it makes a very weird humming noise. At this point I would rather attempt the rebuild on my own instead of shelling out the $600 to get a rebuild from Pat at Midco.

Majestic / Dallas turbo is cheaper than that to rebuild it, But you have to send to the turbo to them.
I've attempted to tear down a turbo once to rebuild it, and there are some torx screws in there that wouldn't budge. Im not sure if I could handle it.
Rebuild kits are $70-90 on ebay.

Theres a small business called Evergreen Turbo that the 2.3 guys absolutely love. Apparently the guy is really good about rebuilds.

Theres also a guy named Damien on a lot of Mazda forums that does hybrids / rebuilds in his spare time. Not sure what he charges off the top of my head, I know he does excellent work though

My car is running the hybrid, but it is the vj11-vj13, it leaves you wanting more, but a nice easy upgrade. Mine cost about 375$$$ shipped both ways from Alamo turbo in Kent WA. That was suppliing the turbo and upgrade parts, (thanks azgt), matt told me also, that it would be a nice upgrade but wanting more. It is a nice upgrade and sp[ools nicely. The best thing , honestly I can say is- At least I know know that thurbo is completely shop built and can handle the 16 psi, I tendd to throw at it occasionally. But at this stage, all I can say is-I cant wait to double the size of my turbo. Just the ability to comfortable run the car at `16 psi made a hell of a differance. I have blew 2 vj14's up so far!!

Well I have a full VJ11 on the way and a couple people offering me Tbird compressors. So I have a big decision to make.
Go with a 14/11 or 11/tbird.
My VJ14 has well over 150,000 miles on it, but its taken a pretty decent beating over the past 10,000 or so. No in/out play and it has what I would consider "normal" side-side (axial?) play.
The VJ11 supposedly has no play.
The setup will be in an 1800lb car with a 9:1 compression b6t.
At this point I'm thinking 11/tbird since I'm gonna have more off-boost power with the 9:1 setup. I will also have more CFM at lower boost, cooler air. And will be pretty much futureproof as far as turbos go. Just need to come across a decent downpipe for it.

man bro, I hope yer not payin alot for the whole turbo, I almost did the same thing and got the parts for the swap on this forum, (thanks azgtx), for alot cheaper. Ask someone on the forum for parts, just need the fan and compressor.

I have the whole vj11 on the way, got it for $100 shipped. The tbird compressor and wheel I have a lead on for $50 I think.
This way I can have both the 14/11 hybrid and the 11/bird hybrid to choose from.
