Title: INCREDIBLE DEAL on Tokico Performance Struts!!!
Post by: calicapri93 on September 28, 2003, 09:16:00 AM
The ordering phone # is right there on this page, they don't have an online order form, because they don't usually sell to the public. They are only selling these 'Overstock/Closeout Specials' directly to the public. Order soon, $39 a strut is suppose to end on 10/5 or when they run out!!!

  http://www.tokicogasshocks.com/new.asp (http://www.tokicogasshocks.com/new.asp)

Don't forget FOUR different part #'s for a complete set...

Mazda 323 - 1986-89 (exc. GTX)
Mercury Tracer - 1987-90

Front struts
HB2083 & HB2084
$39.00 instead of $123.00 ea.

Rear struts
HB2085 & HB2086
$39.00 instead of $123.00 ea.

These have a LIFETIME WARRANTY for as long as they are on your car!  Mine are sitting in the garage, waiting for me to install them along with my new H & R lowering springs and a strut tower brace.  Can't wait to get them on the '93 na I just bought!!
I don't have time this week, going to GIANTS vs. Dodgers games at Pacbell Park this weekend and PLAYOFF games next week! GO GIANTS!!!

I'm sure these struts would work on na's and turbos equally well.  The knowledgeable turbo guys on here will be able to tell you for sure..

These shocks won't work for the rear of a 94 turbo since it has the "sport suspension". I wen't through the drama of having to locate some original struts for my car that's how I know.

You sure? the brochure shows the same struts but different springs and somewhat larger swaybars.

So basically, the struts that are for the tracer/323 will definetly fit the capri?

Most all the parts on the capri are also fits from the 323 and tracer, but its one of those things you have to experiment with to make sure. some stuff will not work due to facts like body clearence due to sharper shaped body.

The BODY is the same on the turbo and na, so I'm guessing they will work on a turbo also.  Not sure about the '94's though, since we hear one negative.

I KNOW these are the struts that fit on 91-93 Capris.  Even though the Tokico site doesn't list Capris, other auto parts sites do list them under Capris and they are these exact part #'s.

Almost the same look as stock and thats about it. most of the struts made for the mazda 323/ mercury capri are the same style and size with the exception of stuff like the spring perch size. The adavantages are what the new shock perform for you as. I'm using the HP versions of the tokico parts and love them. Better then the koni that was on the front, (long story why) and much better then the OEM ones.

I also have the HP Tokico struts and coilovers.  Same exact setup as Anthony's.  I can't, however, comment on performance or difference because I am waiting till the snow melts a little more to install  (http://smile.gif)    I can't wait though!

Does anyone know if it would be possible to use any coilover kit without the spring? If I could get just the mounting features off another kit, it would be easy to put some different, cheaper springs on. Is that at all possible? That way I wont have to spend $400.

Thats a tough one. First of the OEM springs are way to big. Second each coilover by a each company uses a certain spring size and they are much smaller in diameter then our stock ones. You could try to get the seats alone if someone sells them and then match up springs. That may be more time and costly then its worth. Most places charge restocking fees for the springs since you will be returning them due to non-defect, non-company mistake.

Can you give a breakdown of everything you had to buy, the cost of each, and where you got each thing from?

I really need some new struts and I would like to drop her a little too.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I bought my Tokico Struts back when they had them on sale for $39 each.  I just recently received my coilovers.  It doesn't really matter where you get these.  My set is made by Ground-Control and no matter where you get these, unless they have them in stock, which I seriously doubt, they will have to special order them from Ground-Control and they will have to physically build them to order.  That's how often they get ordered.  The coilovers retail for about $400, I got my set for 370 including shipping.  As far as I know, Anthony can chirp in anytime, that's all you need for installation.
Now you can save yourself about $150+ if you just want to settle for lowering springs and get a set 1.5-1.8 inch drop with some H&R springs.  Tirerack.com has those for about $195 shipped.  I couldn't resist the adjustability of the coilovers.

Total cost was only $187. including shipping. Ordered H&R Springs from the tirerack.com for $199. Shipped, just got those in yesterday. Can't wait to put them on the capri!!

I bet if you called and said you had a family emergency and couldn't call yesterday....lol....well maybe don't say that.  I would try and call though if you wanted a set, they, I'm sure have a lot left, and want to get rid of them.  Doesn't hurt to try...

Looks like they extended the sale.

I'm seriously considering these for my XR2 but know little about struts.  Are the Tokicos really better than Monroes that I can pick up at the local parts store for about the same price?

I also use Tokicos and love them.  Very nice ride.  I have Ground Control coilovers instead of lowering springs though.

On Tokico's site, if you type in the capri(works for both na & XR2) in the vehicle app. locator it will show the correct struts(doesn't show capri just 323/tracer but is correct)They probably will sell for the reduced price. They shipped a set of 4 to me for a total of $186. Had to call the 1-800 and do credit card order, only took @4 days to recieve. I went to tirerack.com and purchased the H&R Sport springs, got both installed, I'm not slammed but the drop is very noticeable and looks good. This combo was a great improvement over the stock worn out springs/struts.

Yea Anthony convinced me towards the coilovers vs the lowering springs.  It took me like 2-3 months to decide this   (http://smile.gif)    It was winter at the time anyway and she wasn't being driven.  I am very happy with my setup though.  I just liked the adjustability options.

ok.  after following this thread, I'm convinced.  Ordered the Tokico struts today for $189 shipped.  Yep, they still have em.  The operator said they have been very popular lately, so ya might want to jump on this deal.  Make sure to tell em you are ordering overstocks, otherwise, they won't sell to you.

cheers

So for these struts...all you need to buy are the tokico struts and they will fit fine?  No other parts to buy?  Just needed to know for the future if I purchase them.

The tokico struts are direct replacements. You may want to think about new stock springs and bushings when ever changing old parts, but no new parts are needed. Tokico are selling these parts cheap to the fact that they will not produce anymore. So once gone they are gone. They are strickly a performance company. You can get OEM style from KYG, currently they are still producing the stock style. They also make a OEM performance like tokico which i believe they are also not going to produce anymore and what they have is what is left.

They still have some.  Ordered mine Monday morning hope to have them tomorrow.  Any tips on what to look out for when replacing or is it pretty standard stuff?

OEM replacements. They will go in as easy as the old ones were to take out. Make sure you keep that clip that holds the brake line connected to the struts.
