Thats right folks, the "Largest, longest running, annual gathering of Mercury Convertible enthusiasts in the country.

I think there is a good chance I can go and bring some of my IL capri friends with me.  All depends on if my car is running by then.

PrinceChuck-
Email me if you and others are going to make it out--We can meet up before-hand and "Caravan" to the meet.  I already plan on bringing three of my own cars, so it'll be quite a sight seeing all our cars showing up to the meet at the same time!!
This goes for anyone else planning on attending the largest Capri meet in North America!!  Email me at Cougar1prod@cs.com, and we can work out details!!  I am located in the North-East corner of IL, about halfway between Chicago, and Milwuakee!!

Hey Russ
How does one bring three cars to a meet?
Who's driving the other two?
Title: 3rd Annual Mid-America Capri Gathering
Post by: CapriTypeR on June 02, 2004, 11:20:00 PM
Bill-
It's rather simple, really--drive a block or two, get out, walk back to the second car, drive a block or two past the first one, walk back, drive a block or two past the second one, walk back, etc, etc. I plan on leaving for the meet about 4 days before-hand, to ensure I make it on time!!
Seriously, though, I'll drive one, my Girlfriend another, and friends of ours ( John & Michelle) will drive #3.  They went last year, and had a great time.  So much so, in fact, that Michelle is still searcing for the "perfect" XR2 to become her next baby!!

Hope it's not his personal XR2, from the kind of restoration he said he invested in it, would lose alot of money on a sale!

Hey Chick-
it's the white one, he says he has too many cars and 1 has to go.

That is Pat's personal XR2. He bought a mercedes SLK and is keeping his 91 XR2 so the 94 XR2 has to go according to him. He said he has invested alot of money to make it right and that everything is perfect. It would be a deal if I had the money.

I am currently in negotiating the possibility of renting the "ROCKFORD SPEEDWAY" (1/4 mile asphalt oval) for our gathering.  I should hear back within the next few days.  I thought it would make some interesting pictures.  The date is still the same Aug 28.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE

Ladies, genital men, and children of all ages.  Let it be known today that we DO have the "Rockford Speedway" track from 10:00 am to noon, on saturday the 28th of August 2004.  Cars that show up after 9:59am will not be allowed on the track (insurance purposes) There will be waivers for all to sign.

Friends, this should be fun.  So Capri owners, come one come all.  Bring your Capri's and go in circles.  There will be a picnic afterwards.

Since this is the "Mid-America Capri Gathering" only Capri's will be allowed on the track.  Also, if this works out good, we may want to do it again, so we won't want to have any problems with too aggressive of drivers and stupid stunts.  I mean this is just plain common courtesy right?

I hope to see at least twice as many cars and people than last year.  You have plenty of warning, get your vacation slips in tomorrow.  Come and enjoy a day of fellowship with people, and the Capri's that own them.

I just went to the yahoo group and noticed that there seems to be alot of interest.   I'm sure I won't be the only one planning on making hotel accomodations for the big day.   I went to the  Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (http://www.gorockford.com/) and found a wonderful link.   I have booked a suite for $56.00.   Anyone planning on staying overnight I suggest you book soon.   If we get enough confirmations maybe Russ or Bob can get a discount somewhere on a block of rooms.   See you all in August.

Post by: drbob on June 23, 2004, 04:37:00 AM
Hey Teri, So far, I have it all taken care of financially.  The only thing people need to pay for (so far) is just the food for the picnic.

This year we will be adding "Tech Tips" to the gathering.  These will be showing how to do simple bolt on additions to the capri.  Nothing to involved yet.

If we can convince Cory to join us, we might be able to do more.

Again, I look forward to seeing old friends and new.  Come on folks, take the chance, enjoy the day.

I'm now seriously considering making it to the Freeport meet.  I'm figuring out who wants to ride with me first then I will decide on whether I'll be able to make it.  Since it's at the end of the month it makes it a little tougher with work but we'll see.

Cory-
Holy c--p, what just happenened??????? Sorry!!  Anyway, Cory, I know how that work thing sucks!  That is the #1 reason I did not make it down to the KC meet.  They hit us with overtime 2 days before we were set to head out to you  ( Thanks, Rob, It's all Home Depots fault!!) Trust me though, You'll have the time of your life!  Where else can you take your Capri out on a real NASCAR track!!  And as an added bonus, maybe Bob will show you his Nipples!

Just a quick update on "The Gathering"

I have a friend with a hog roaster, and we will be able to use it for our picnic.  I figure we will use the racks and just use it as a grill, The good thing is we will be able to put on a couple hundred pounds of beef and pork on at the same time.

So we will be stopping at a grocery store before hiting the picnic spot to get some food.

We will be demonstrating how to install the white face guages, air intake, and much more.  I know to many of you, that may be a bit too simple, but if you want to do more, let Russ or I know.

I got a good look at the track last week.  This should be fun, so show up with a full tank of gas.

The midwests largest waterpark is in Rockford also.  On your way home, you may need to cool off.

Tenitive schedule

10:00 am Aug 28 Track opens for us at the www.rockfordspeedway.com (http://www.rockfordspeedway.com)  Those who show up after 10 will not be allowed on the track (Speedway liability issues)  You will all need to sign a waiver of responsibility agreement.   We have the track till noon, or maybe a little before (races at noon)  We will head directly from the track to the grocery store and picnic spot.

I look forward to seeing "The Regulars" and "the newbies".

Each year we have doubled, and expect to do so again this year.  Only, because of you crazy/insane/nuttty people who enjoy this strange little car so much am I able to do this.  Thanks

Well, the fate of my appearance will be uncovered in a couple of weeks.  I'm pretty siked to travel over there but I really rather not make that 7 hour trip by myself so I'm awaiting answers.  Ohh Bob are there any camp sites around that area?  If I miss out on getting a hotel room I'm bringing a tent dammit!  (http://smile.gif)

I see through the directory section that if we got everyone from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin & Minnesota, we would have at least 40 cars showing up.  could you imagine 40 Capri's in one spot?  That would make us the largest gathering IN THE WORLD......HA HA HA HA (meniacal laughter)  THE WORLD...HA-HA-HA (more meniacal laughter along with thunder and lightining)

Greetings all, and Howdy.

I am trying to get a bead on how many people will be making it
to "The Gathering" this year. I kinda neet to know so I can try to
plan the logistics accordingly. I really hope we have a good turn
out this year (double again?)

I'm hoping all of last years group will be there (minus rob & nadine
with previous commitments, and no capri). I really think this will
the best yet. (I can make these bold statements because...well to
be honest, its only the third year)

So shine em up boys and girls, It's only a month away.

At least I don't have to play with myself.  The conversation at your gathering should be pretty boring.  But since you like to hear the sound of your own voice, you may enjoy it.

I can assure you the conversation at our gathering should be quite lively.  Our friend Russ has something new to show us.  It should prove to generate more than a couple posts here.

Well, there are 3 weeks left, until the largest gathering of Capri enthusiasts in North America is held in Rockford, IL.  For all of you that will be coming from near, or east of Chicago, there will be a "Pre-Meet Meet" at the Subway Sandwiches & Salads, located at 2450 Route 12, in Spring Grove, IL 60081.  The purpose of this meet is to group up, and caravan to the main meet in one large group.  Due to the fact that we MUST be at the Rockford Speedway by 10 am to participate, we will be leaving the Subway parking lot at 8:30 SHARP!  Anyone interested in meeting up prior to the main event can email me at Cougar1prod at CS dot com.

He has a backstage pass for a private party with the performers but it's not Cher.
It's a cher impersonator who has been double billed with a judy garland impersonator.
Jamie Farr, AKA Cpl Max Klinger, of MASH tv fame, is the master of ceremonies.

Hey George, I heard he is listening to show tunes now, so no Celene.

In less than two weeks there will be the largest gathering of Capri convertible enthusiasts in the country.

This is a great time to put faces to the names.  Actually meet the people you talk to!!  I will be handing out small bags of crap to everyone (I got a new puppy)  so try to make it.  Imagine driving down the highway with at least 16 other Capri's.  It really is a sight to see.

Everyone who has come before will be here again.  That shows how much fun people have.  When you talk about your car, you are actually talking to someone who understands what you are saying.  Good or bad, we've been through it all with our cars.  Yet we gather yearly to give our cars it's own special day.

Hey Cory,

Are you a man or a mouse?  I made the trip from 150 north of Rockford to KC all by myself.  I left at 11:30 Thursday night, and slept in my car in a Pizza Hut parking lot.  Was it boring; you bet. I may not have 3 nipples like Dr. Bob, but I guess I have bigger cahones than you.  Would you like a little cheese with that whine.
Title: 3rd Annual Mid-America Capri Gathering
Post by: pmpsht on August 19, 2004, 07:55:00 AM
Hey you-
Ohh trust me I wanna go, in fact been planning to go.  But Dr Bob didn't hold up his end of our deal...he comes to the KC meet I go to his "big" meet...J/K  But seriously I will still try and convince my father to sleep in the car with me if we have to, and take sandwiches.  I don't really care, but the Capri is also in the shop right now getting it's IC installed and all new polished aluminum piping, among some other goodies.  I looove to show off!  So IF the car is done and in shape to make the trip and my dad agrees to my suggestion...then I'm coming.  I will let everyone know, I even have that Friday off to make the trip still so we'll see.
Title: 3rd Annual Mid-America Capri Gathering
Post by: drbob on August 20, 2004, 08:20:00 AM
Just a week away and my nipples stand erect with anticipation.  (sorry, had to add that for Billimena)

Things you may need to bring.

1.  silverware
2.  drinks
3.  paper plates
4.  maybe a lawn chair, but it wont be really needed at the picnic area.

I guess picnic stuff would be appropriate.  Arron Tippen will be playing saturday night at the local "Stephen county fair" and Ronnie Milsap on Friday night.  Admission is the cost of the fair admission, but you would have to come early to get a seat.

Oh by the way.  DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOUR CAMERAS.  Whoever is at the  back of the pack will have to have a passenger who is willing to "do what it takes" to get some good shots of us tooling down the highway.

The thought of so many Capri's driving together is putting just the biggest damn smile on my face.

See all there

boB

Oh by the way, none of the businesses decided to contribute.

Bob,  You didn't hold your up your end of our deal.   (http://graemlins/alien.gif)    Even though I want to go, my car is also in pieces.  In a good way for me though.  Starion IC  (http://smile.gif) , I'm sooo excited, since only like 1-2 other people that I have even heard of have done this.  I'm getting all polished aluminum 2.5" piping including all new piping for the intake.  It should be a pretty one when it's finished.  Everybody better make it to the Topeka meet next year!  Petrusky and I are already planning.  Should be a big bar-b-q and among other activities.  I'm bringing my Jetski!  Have fun guys!  I seriously had planned on going, in fact have the day off on Friday and everything... oh well, there's always next year.  Take pictures and post them up on my photo site  www.2nerfixx.com/photoshare (http://www.2nerfixx.com/photoshare)   I will make a folder for everyone to post their pictures if you want.  See ya!

Cory

If I would of gone to yours, I would be broke from all of the crap I would buy at Cabelas, Plus the car would not be able to haul all of the stuff, so the only way I would make it there is with the other car, but then that does not fit in with the meet requirements.....DAMN...I sure do love Cabela's though.  My favorite place to shop besides ebay.

Getting Close!!  Less than 1 full day, until the largest gathering of Capri enthusiasts in North America is held in Rockford, IL. For all of you that will be coming from near, or east of Chicago, there will be a "Pre-Meet Meet" at the Subway Sandwiches & Salads, located at 2450 Route 12, in Spring Grove, IL 60081  (For those of you who like to use mapquest). The purpose of this meet is to group up, and caravan to the main meet in one large group. Due to the fact that we MUST be at the Rockford Speedway by 10 am to participate, we will be leaving the Subway parking lot at 8:30 SHARP! So far, I know of 4 cars that will be meeting there. Anyone interested in meeting up prior to the main event can email me at Cougar1prod at CS dot com.

wow !~!!!!   what a blast.......16 cars at the track and two more joined afterwards.  Boy, you all missed out.  The track was dry this morning and SOOOOOO much fun.  The picnic was wet but we were in a shelter so no rain bothered us.

I don't know how to emphasize enough how much fun we all had, and how I would like everyone to show up next year.

We doubled again this year, and everyone is planning to make it back next year, does that tell you something?

DrBob,  I think I can speak for the everyone when I say "You did a great job and thanks for everything" I had a blast and I really enjoyed getting a look at more then just my capri on the road. I give it a big thumbs up 10.

Now I gotta ask this 1 question DrBob.... anyone ever tell you that you like like the "Amazing Jonathan"?

And now you've got a big job ahead of you.... to out do this year...next time.  Is it even possible?

In the midst of driving to the picnic,  I got a call from my wife telling me my play time was up and I had to get my rear home. My cousin (riding in the back all the way to Indiana) made it back in 1 piece, and hopefully in a few days will be able to stand up straight again.

I'll be back next year, and Bob,  thanks again!

"All Hail King Bob, King of all Capridom".  Sorry Bill-You just lost your title!!  Anyone who can make so many people smile and have such a great time has to be the King (or a Pimp!)!
Bob- A million thanks to you for doing such a fantastic job again this year!!  Driving the cars on the Speedway was an experience I won't soon forget!!  Getting to see familar faces and meeting new ones, and seeing that l-o-n-g string of Capris cruising down the highway was the highlight of my Summer!
Bob- Thank You, Again!!

Bill- I think Bob was so excited, that he actually grew another nipple!!

And to everyone else I talked to about parts, email me at Cougar1prod at CS dot com.

I will be posting photos some time this week on Yahoo Photos, and I will let everyone know when I get that done!!

Will there be a bloody coup?
Could the peasants be revolting?
Can years tyrany finally be coming to an end?  Can good triumph over evil?

I am still wondering who got the bag with the blue balls.  There is a door prize that needs to be sent out.  The door prize was supposed to go to "THOSE WHO'S BALLS ARE BLUEST OF ALL"  If you have the blue balls, send a picture of them to Bill, and he will verify them.

Ok, the cars look great on the track, but somethings missing. Oh, that's what it is, no Everglade Green Capri's! I will try to make the next gathering to represent this beautiful color. All in all though, the pics were great and reminded me why I bought mine, pure power.

Here is a website that has all of the pictures of the 3rd Annual Mid-American Capri Gathering.

For those contemplating going to the 4th Annual, look at the pictures and ask yourself "Do I want to be a part of that?"

I think the answer will be, can it be sooner.
